Biography - Peter Graves: Mission Accomplished

The words, "Good morning, Mr. Phelps" might appropriately have been accompanied by the strains of Grieg's "Morning," for the actor portraying the leader of the IMF (on the TV series "Mission Impossible") was Norwegian American Peter Aurness, AKA Peter Graves. He played that role from 1967-73, reprising it a 1988-90 MI series on which he was the only returning member of the original casts. Born on March 18, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minn., he is the younger brother of Gunsmoke star James Aurness (Arness). Graves is well remembered by those of the Baby Boomer generation as Jim on the children's TV series, "Fury," and has distinguished himself of late as alternating host of the popular A&E series, "Biography." His cast credits are extensive.
