This was much better than I'd expected. I'd only
caught a couple of episodes on Cartoon Network (why
they couldn't keep a set schedule with the show,
I'll never understand. It's like they wanted the
show to fail.)
Anyway, I'd only caught a couple of episodes on
Cartoon Network, and I thought they were decent, but
not great. They were a couple of the early ones, and
not quite as polished as the episodes on this disc.
I really enjoyed these -- especially the Anihalus
episode and the Iron Man episode. Doom appears in
all the episodes, and is actually a pretty good
villain with a very striking design.
While I initially hadn't liked the designs because
of the pointed chins, I have to say that the show
actually looks great. The designs for Doom, Anihalus,
and Iron Man especially were fantastic, and the CGI
incorporated into the animation worked really well.
The show looks sharp and bright.
Overall the dialogue and writing is pretty good.
Johney is a little less bright than he should be,
but serves decently in these episodes as comic
releif, and the action (while not at JLU or The
Batman levels,) was entertaining.
I mostly picked this up because the price was good
and I was curious about Anihalus and Iron Man. I'm
glad I gave it a chance, and now I actually regret
that the show got cancelled (with only about half
the episodes shown -- again, what was up with CN?)
Based on these episodes, I'm abosolutely going to
buy the full season when it comes out in June. I'm
especially curious to see how Super Skrull, Hulk,
Namor (who's in two episodes,)and Ronan (who's also
in two episodes,) turn out. I'm also intriuged by
the Frightful four who were in some decent episodes
of the 90's FF series. And it sounds like Anihalus
comes back again as well.
More continuity between episodes would have been
great -- in fact, continuity often makes a big
difference to how much I like a show (most shows
need more of it) -- but over all good stuff.
