Scooby Doo History
Scooby Doo, Where are You?  in 1969

No cartoon has produced more episodes than Scooby Doo. The cartoon featuring the loveable dog Scooby and the teenagers Shaggy, Velma, Daphne, and Fred who solve mysteries has began in 1969. The cowardly great dane and the mystery solving teens drove around in the Mystery Machine van and found ghosts and ghouls wherever they stopped. Back in the early days, the monsters always turned out to be a bad guy in a costume. The recent cartoon movies have found Scooby Doo running into real monsters at times. The original season usually included a cool 60's sounding pop song played as the Scooby gang is chased by the bad guys usually in some sort of haunted looking building or environment. The favorite line from Scooby Doo proclaimed by the bad guys at the end of each episode is "I would have gotten away it if it weren't for you meddling kids!"

New Scooby-Doo Movies 1972

Scooby Doo in 1972 went to the movies sort of. In the New Scooby-Doo Movies a different guest star appeared in each episode. Guests included Don Knotts, Batman, the Three Stooges, the Harlem Globe Trotters, Jonathan Winters, Phyllis Diller, Sandy Duncan, Sonny Bono, Cher, the Addams Family, etc. These episode were fun for the guest stars, but the shows themselves weren't nearly as funny or as fast paced as Scooby Doo, Where are You. Some of the guest star choices weren't all that bright for a Saturday morning cartoon show either. Choices like Phyllis Diller and Sandy Duncan I wouldn't think would be nearly as popular for kids as the other guests like the Three Stooges, Globetrotters, Batman, or the Addams Family. At least I know which ones stood out for me as a kid.

Scooby Doo/Dynomutt Hour 1976

A half hour of Scooby Doo is backed by 30 minutes of Dynomutt the Dog Wonder and the Blue Falcon. These two super heroes would occasionally team up with the Scooby gang during this time. These Scooby episodes increased in quality from the New Scooby-Doo Movies episodes.

Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics 1977

Scooby Doo teams up with Hong Kong Phooey, Blue Falcon, Dynomutt, Captain Caveman, and Speed Buggy to compete in a Olympic style contests against the Really Rottens (the bad guys), and the Yogi Yahooeys (old school Hanna Barbera characters led by Yogi Bear).

Scooby and Scrappy 1979

Joining the gang is Scooby's pint-sized nephew, Scrappy-Doo. A lot of fans have issues with Scrappy and his war cry, " Puppy Power!". Still the quality is a step up from the New Scooby-Doo Movies.

The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Hour 1980

One hour sharing episodes between Scooby and Richie Rich. The thing I never understood was these weird pairings of characters who never actually meet on their individual episodes. I mean why Richie Rich and Scooby Doo together. Wouldn't Casper and Richie Rich make better since they often teamed up in the comic books.

Scooby, Scrappy, and Shaggy act goofy, and unlike its predecessors, this is not a mystery series. The gang is cut down to Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby with Scrappy of course. There is no Fred or Velma. I guess the biggest mystery of Scooby Doo is where did these guys go for a while.

The Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Puppy Hour 1982

Half of the show is Scooby, Scrappy, and a new dog named Yabba Doo. The other half is cartoon about a puppy named Petey who searches for his master every episode.

The All-New Scooby and Scrappy-Doo Show 1983
Scooby adventures with Daphne, Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy.

The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries 1984

More of the same with Scrappy Doo a few episodes feature Velma and Fred.

The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo 1985

The series takes a unique turn here. Scooby faces real monsters with the aide of Daphne, Scrappy, an orphan named Flim Flam and warlock Vincent Van Ghoul. Vincent is voiced by Vincent Price the classic horror actor. Still no Fred or Velma where are they?

A Pup Named Scooby-Doo 1988

Scooby Doo adventures return except this time Scooby and the Mystery gang are kids. Fred and Velma are back of course since this is supposed to be in the past.
