Frosty the Snowman DVDs

What's with the new Frosty haters. It's not the classic, but the modern version that's creates the hate. Frosty Returns released Christmas season back in 1992 still gets played every year, but boy does it have it's critics. Just read some of the reviews for those that bought  the Frosty the Snowman DVD set that features the original 1969 classic and the newer 1992 Frosty Returns.

Well let's back track just a bit. What made the classic version so beloved? First there's that song Frosty the Snowman sung by Jimmy Durante, and then there's Santa Claus, the evil magician, and all that magic. Of course the biggest thing is well...Christmas. The 1992 version doesn't even mention Christmas. So why even show it every Christmas? Instead it refers to a winter carnival. Oooh that sounds so fun. Not.

But the new has got a lot of other great fun like climate change, environmentalism, and corporate enterprise. Man that's the kind of Christmas time I wish I could have had as child, don't you?

So every Christmas the good old original Frosty is shown, but then they pile on the boring new version for good measure. Why did they bother to make a crappy sequel in the first place. Well you see CBS owns the rights to the original, but not the original also classic sequel that featured Andy Griffith as the narrator. That one named Frosty's Winter Wonderland can be seen usually on the ABC Family channel every year instead of CBS where Frosty and Frosty Returns plays. So CBS got the bright idea of making a non-classic Christmas special they could push onto the American public every year, you know something without Christmas in it.

The music in Frosty Returns is terrible, and there is absolutely no continuity. About the only similarity between 1969 and 1992 is that it's about a snowman. In the old show for instance if Frosty took off his hat, he lost the magic that brought him to life. Doesn't matter in the 1992 version.

Here's a clip of Frosty Returns. You be the judge.
