The aircraft seen crashing in the opening sequence of The Six Million Dollar Man was an M2-F2, a "flying body configuration" built by Northrup. The audio is from a crash that occurred on May 10, 1967, at Edwards Air Force base in California. The test pilot, Bruce Peterson, hit the ground at 250 mph, tumbling six times. He lost use of his right eye and had to stop flying, ending his career. Understandably, Peterson has said that he hated reliving his accident, week after week, courtesy of Steve Austin.

History: The Six Million Dollar Man was introduced to television audiences in 1973 on three television movies on ABC's Suspense theater.

Cyborg: The Six Million Dollar Man 03/07/73
Wine, Women and War 10/20/73
The Solid Gold Kidnapping 11/17/73

These movies were based on Martin Caidin's "Cyborg" novels. In 1974 the Six Million Dollar Man became a series on ABC.

On the episodes "The Bionic Woman Part I" 03/16/75 39, and "The Bionic Woman Part II" 03/23/75, the world was introduced to a bionic woman, who just happened to be a  love interest of Steve Austin. Jaime Sommers gets amnesia regarding her love for Steve and gets her own tv show on ABC in 1976.

In the third season (1977-1978 ) of the Bionic Woman, the show moved to NBC while the Six Million Dollar Man stayed at ABC.

In the third Bionic Woman  season, the Bionic Dog was introduced. This character was a favorite of mine way back then.

Three bionic tv movies were made, with the last one which aired Tuesday November 29, 1994 from 9:00 - 11:00 PM on CBS,  the bionic couple finally were brought together in holy matrimony.
