Date of birth:  24 January 1917 in Hamden, Connecticut, USA
Ernest Borgnine starred
in great classic tv shows like the super helicopter Airwolf, and the comedy McHale's Navy. His parents immigrated from Carpi, Italy. Interestingly enough he joined the Navy for 10 yrs leaving in 1945. His mother convinced him he could be a actor so he enrolled at the Randall School of Drama in Hartford. He made his acting debut in 1949 on Broadway playing a male nurse in the play "Harvey". His first movie came in the movie "The Whistle at Eaton Falls" 1951. In 1955 he got an Academy award for best actor. He finally made television history when he starred as Lt. Quinton McHale in McHale's Navy from 1962-1966. He came back to television years later on Airwolf in 1984. In 1995 he came back again to play doorman Manny Cordoba in the Single Guy. He also appeared as Cobra on the new Mchale's Navy movie. Ernest Borgnine continues to work today and has been at it over 50 years.

Memorable Quote from McHale's Navy
Nurse Molly Turner: I thought you were the 'tiger of the pacific.'
Lieut. Quinton McHale: No, I'm a "chicken-livered sissy. Quinton McHale"

Capt. Binghamton: Commander, how would you and your men like two weeks with nothing to do but play gin rummy, go surfing, have luaus with steel drum bands, dancing girls, hmm?
Lieut.Quinton McHale: Two whole weeks? Woo hooo, oh that'd be a wonderful change sir. Yes sir.
Note: That was basically what they did anyway.
