Ernest Borgnine starred
in
great classic tv shows like the super helicopter Airwolf, and the
comedy McHale's Navy. His parents immigrated from Carpi, Italy.
Interestingly enough he joined the Navy for 10 yrs leaving in 1945. His
mother convinced him he could be a actor so he enrolled at the Randall
School of Drama in Hartford. He made his acting debut in 1949 on
Broadway playing a male nurse in the play "Harvey". His first
movie came in the movie "The Whistle at Eaton Falls" 1951. In
1955 he got an Academy award for best actor. He finally made television
history when he starred as Lt. Quinton McHale in McHale's Navy from
1962-1966. He came back to television years later on Airwolf in 1984.
In 1995 he came back again to play doorman Manny Cordoba in the Single
Guy. He also appeared as Cobra on the new Mchale's
Navy movie. Ernest Borgnine continues to work today and has been at it over 50 years.
