NBC's new series Trauma is both exciting and eye catching at the same time with car crashes, helicopter crashes, and general mass hysteria.

Which means it's generally the kind of show I love to watch, and I do love to watch it. At least I've enjoyed the first couple of episodes so far.

I am of the generation that grew up on similar shows with car crashes, fires, etc like Chips and Emergency. Emergency being the show I would most compare it to.

In the old days we had Paramedic Roy DeSoto and Paramedic Johnny Gage in Emergency, a show created by Jack Webb, that had paramedics with extreme professionalism during any crisis. With Trauma it seems much more chaotic, the paramedics are always ticked off at one another, and sometimes even seem angry or uncaring to the patients. Of course we are led to believe that deep down they care too much, and it all seems like it's a war movie where the situation is completely out of control. In Emergency the paramedics always seemed in control of the situation, and really I'd think I'd want those guys from Emergency helping me out in a emergency situation with their calm cool attitudes and professionalism vs the Trauma guys.

I just want to know which one is closer to reality, or are they both closer to reality from the times and day they are presented in?

Another difference is Emergency had two paramedics with the fire department instead of directly working with the hospital. In Emergency they always had direct access to contact a doctor. Not so on Trauma.

Yes these things do bug the crap out of me, but I like the show Trauma. It keeps my attention. I hope they go more for realism in the future along with the explosions and so forth. I just hope paramedics don't really act like those guys in real life.

I don't have any experience as a paramedic, but I have watched both show. I'm with you...I hope they don't act like that in real life! I know being a paramedic is a tough job and they deserve a lot of respect and don't always get it, but the ones on Trauma are total jerks.
