I must have nearly all of Roy Rogers movies including many episodes of his Roy Rogers TV Shows, and amongst Roy's early Movies I like the best are those with George "Gabby" Hayes, along with what must be one of the Greatest piece of Horse Comedy where in the 1952 Movie: Son of Paleface Bob Hope is in bed with Trigger while Roy just looks on.
This of course is a Great fun movie both for the Kids, and Roy Rogers / Bob Hope fans alike.
In many of Roy's other movies Roy has on board the backing group that he founded: (The Original grouping of; The Sons of the Pioneer's), whom have done more for Cowboy Western Music than almost any other Groups.
I did see the Video on youtube with Dean Martin and Roy Rogers before it was pulled off, as Deano was in what is my favourite "Movie" Western of all times: Rio Bravo, along with John "Duke" Wayne.
Dean Martin in my view should have made more Western Movies in his lifetime then he did, for the role of playing a Cowboy suited him well, and on-screen he very much looked as if he was enjoying the adventures.
This also reminds me that it was one Dean Martin's L.P.'s ( being the second L.P.) that I first bought back around 1960 ( Dean of Music ), and I still have this L.P., and I still sometimes play it. The first L.P. that I ever bought was by the Great: Johnny Horton, and a great singer he was too, for no one will ever forget the song North to Alaska, which in this Movie starred: John Wayne and Stewart Grainger whom himself starred in( Men from Shilo ) aka: the 9th and final Season of the Virginian TV Series.
As for John Wayne, well what can you really say about a Legend and American Icon, for beside Rio Bravo I also would rank as my other favourites movies of the Duke being: Donovan's Reef (1963), The Quite Man (1952) and The Searchers (1956), to name but afew.
There were once many singing Cowboy's beside Roy such as another of my favourites Rex Allen Srn, and Tex Ritter, etc:
By contrast, there was also those that played Cowboy's that could sing, being: Parnell Roberts, Lorne Green, Robert Horton, Don Durant and back in his days with the Sons of the Pioneers: Ken Curtis.
This is the Great thing about both Western Singer's and Movie Star's, for somehow they ALL at some point came together and in many ways crossed-over, and no I have'nt forgotten about my other favourite Non -Western T.V. Series, 77 Sunset Strip, for yet again Roger Smith aka: Jeff Spencer was also an Actor whom could Sing.
Happy Days.
