Sad news today...Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray in the water off the Great Barrier Reef. Irwin was filming for an upcoming series called "Ocean's Deadliest" when he swam too close to one of the animals, which have a poisonous barb on their tails. The stingray's barb punctured Irwin's heart.
Irwin was world famous for his television program "Crocodile Hunter," which was first broadcast in Australia in 1992, then picked up by the Discovery network. Irwin also starred in the 2002 feature film "The Crocodile Hunters: Collision Course".
Irwin leaves behind his American-born wife Terri, from Eugene, Ore., their daughter Bindi Sue, 8, and son Bob, who will turn 3 in December.
It's so hard to believe that something like this could happen to the 'Crocodile Hunter'. Many people had begun to think of him as invincible after so many years of putting himself into wild and dangerous situations and never getting hurt. I guess this just proves, once again, that we are all only human.
RIP Steve.
