Stargate SG-1 hits a major milestone on August 18, 2006 – its 200th episode. The series recently entered into its tenth season, making it the longest running sci-fi series on television, a title previously held by X-Files, which ran for nine seasons.
Described as “no ordinary Stargate episode” in the latest edition of TV Guide, the 200th episode promises lots of fun with a Saturday Night Live feel. In the anniversary episode you will see the Stargate team costumed as characters from “The Wizard of Oz” with Teal’c (Christopher Judge) as the Tin Man, Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) as the Cowardly Lion, Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder) as Scarecrow, and Vala Mal Doran (Claudia Black) as Dorothy.
There will be an appearance by Richard Dean Anderson, the first of five appearances on SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis planned for Anderson this season. In the anniversary episode, Anderson’s character, Jack O’Neill, is seen at the alter with Samantha (Amanda Tapping). Though, as you would expect, everything is not what it seems.
TV Guide reports that, although ratings have slipped this year, producers are not ready to close down the Gate just yet. Producers want the franchise to live on, even if this proves to be the last season on the Sci-Fi channel. This likely means a feature film or a miniseries can be expected in the future.
The 200th episode is scheduled to air on Friday, August 18, 2006, at 9:00 p.m. EST on the Sci-Fi Channel. Don’t miss it!
