The National Parks: America's Best Idea [Blu-ray]

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Love National Parks
I bought this series on Blu Ray because I missed the original broadcasts on PBS. This year I went to a National Park for the first time in my life and I wanted to see how the DVD matched my experience. Well first let me say that being on a National Park is an incredible experience. I visited Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Those parks are just amazing and I want to see more.

The DVD is based on the history of the parks, the people involved in the evolution of the park system, and individual human stories of people affected by the parks. The photography and videography is excellent. The story telling shows the great care of the producers and their ability to select compelling material. And there is the magic of Ken Burns. I have watched every episode several times (there are six). Every human story is fascinating and ties well with the parks history on the episodes.

I highly recommend this series to anyone interested on viewing the parks, or knowing their history. The videos are beautiful. And so are the parks. America's Best Idea, indeed.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - respect and adoration for our land
Beautiful feast for the eyes to see...magnified 100X in Blue Ray ! Why go anywhere else in the world when we have this paramount landscape.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Well worth the purchase price
This is a fantactic series and the Blu-ray version makes it even better. This is an educational piece for all of us and helps build an appreciation for our National Parks that most of us would not have otherwise. I heartily recommend it to everyone that has ever enjoyed our beautiful National Parks.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - National Parks yawn
I bought this DVD set for my husband with high expectations, having read some fine reviews.
Normally, we would both love this kind of thing, certainly love the subject matter but we were both fast asleep after an hour!
The pace of the filming, the repetitive style, the dreary music without any change in the rhythm.. both of commentary or filming, made the whole thing drag.
While I can see the need to take a slow amble through the nature's wonders in order to appreciate its riches when you are out there in the midst of it all, it just didn't work for me, in my arm chair, watching my TV!!
Disappointing!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Documentary!
This is Ken Burns' masterpiece. If you love a good PBS show then this is for you. The Blu Ray is amazing. You can see dust from the old pictures of Yosemite on the screen. A must for any avid learner.
