I purchase this system because I did have some game CD. I'm very happy with this PSP 3000. This is great buy.

The PSP is the first portable console released by Sony; it was first released in Japan late 2004 then in America in March of 2005 and the first upgrade the 2000 was launched in 2007. The PSP 3000 came out in 2008 and is the third and latest version of the PSP. I think that by now you should know what to expect, after all it's the same PSP with a few changes. This one is even lighter and brighter than the original and the 2000, it has an improved LCD screen (I wouldn't worry too much about the scan lines). It now has a microphone (which I've never used as of now), a longer battery life it also feels great in my hands which is great. It comes in different colors; piano black, silver, purple and white (there are also limited edition ones as well and some with designs on them). There are also many packages to choose from, maybe you just want the core to replace your current PSP or you may want to buy the Ratchet and Clank package or perhaps the Assassin's Creed one.
So is it worth buying a PSP 3000 right now? Yes. There are some goods games available like Final Fantasy Crisis Core, God of War and there are still good games coming out for the system. The games don't cost that much either they are priced reasonably, you can buy a brand new one for about 40$ and "Greatest Hits" games are under 20$. It does a lot of things for a portable console, including networking. You may want to consider buying a bigger memory stick card if you plan on playing many games and having many files on your PSP. Don't worry about the PSP Go, I know there are some concerns but it's a different console and Sony aren't planning to replace the PSP with it, it's entirely different and if you aren't comfortable with the fact that you don't have physical copies of the game (you buy games online) you should rather get this one or an older version of the PSP.

The PSP overall is a fun handheld. It can play videos and songs downloaded from your pc. You can access the playstation network to buy comics, videos, and games to play on the PSP. There are a wide variety of movies to play, but not so much for games. As it stands, there aren't enough games to purchase for the average rpg fan.
If you intend to get a PSP console, you must get a large enough memory card (atleast a 4 gig model), as much of the good content requires a hefty ammount of memory. The web browser could have been much better, and so could the playlist functionality. The web browser looks like something out of a cheap cellphone, so it can be a real handfull to use. The internet is not supposed to be that difficult to use... In order to assemble a playlist, you must download the media from your PC (mediago manager) or PS3.
The biggest flaw though, is the multiplayer. Some, if not most online capable games require you to have a PS3 to access the ad-hoc mode. This includes games such as Final Fantasy Dissidia, and Phantasy Star Portable. So before you get all excited about these games, be sure that you look for ad-hoc or wifi.
But despite its flaws, it is a great system and plays it's games well. Now if only the network would have a decent sellection of games to purchase...
