Not only is this a great Batman game, but it's a great game, period. My only wish is that the story mode was longer.

Batman: Arkham Asylum was easily the best "superhero" game I've ever played, and one of the most fun "beat em up" games I've played. The combat mechanics are very easy to pick up, but do take some time to master the timing. As a mere casual gamer, I can never remember long strings of combos / button presses. Batman:AA has very little of that, instead there are a few basic moves that are mainly timing based.
The graphics were outstanding, and really helped set the mood of the game. The voice acting was also top notch, using many of the actors from the old Batman cartoon series (including Luke Skywalker as the Joker!). The character models were also quite good - some of the "traditional" costumes were changed but all of the changes felt like they belonged in the context of the Batman universe. The score was also excellent.
Part of the game is solving "challenges" left by the Riddler, who taunts you occasionally through the game. These challenges are riddles, hidden trophies, "patient" interview tapes, etc. Some are incredibly easy to find (or the riddles are very obvious), while others can be quite challenging. But Batman:AA is one of the only games where I've really wanted to go back and finding everything. I usually run out of time and/or patience.
My only minor complaint is that some of the challenge rooms got repetitive, especially if you had to try several times (and had to listen to the Joker's same taunts over and over). Again, this is extremely minor, and the challenge rooms aren't required for completing the story mode (but are required for trophies).

First off everyone knows Batman video games SUCK!!!! Suck Suck Suck Suck Suck so badly I could $^#&%$*&%(*! but this Batman: Arkham Asylam is freakin one of a kind. This game is so much fun it makes you say, "Now was it really that hard to make a good Batman game in the first place". In the beginning, for you Playstation 3 owners, you download the game stuff and the background audio truely makes you feel like you're about to emerge into becoming the caped crusader and save the day. It's dark just like the true Batman (not kids version) and you have an arsenal of bat gear, automotives, the batcave (the batcave? you say, yeh) and more than a hand full of Joker Thugs and Batman's most dangerous arch enemies including of coarse Joker sporting his old school look differ from The Dark Knight, making you almost like it more because it's so traditional, but not knocking The Dark Knight at all, it's its own Batman universe. There is to much to say about this game, it is truely a Batman authentic game. On scale 1 to 10, I give it a 20! A++++++++++++++
