Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World Video Games

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - STAY AWAY; Clear Attempt To Milk The Last PS2 DBZ Game
Review I wrote on PSI Insider:

Described as "The Best of the Budokai Series," Infinite World combines all the best elements of previous Dragon Ball Z: Budokai games, whilst also boasting new features such as "Dragon Missions", new battle types and drama scenes for fans to delve deeper than ever before into the Dragon Ball Z universe. For the most part, this can be viewed as more of a remix of 2005's Budokai 3.

After booting up from the title screen you are greeted by the main menu with six things to choose from; Dragon Mission, Dragon Duel, Warriors Training, Warriors Room, Options, and one more mode which would have to be unlocked in order to use. We'll let you find out just what the mode is for yourself to better the enjoyment.

The story mode for Infinite World takes place with the new game mode called Dragon Mission. Here, the players can reenact many moments from the anime and contain goals that are not restricted to fighting. Some of these missions include running to the end of Snake Way under a time limit, and trying to catch Bubbles on King Kai's planet Although this is not a new concept to the franchise, as the first Budokai game featured two mini games within its story modes, the feature was absent from Budokai 2 and Budokai 3.

What would seem to be the best mode for the game, is actually the worst part about it and was the reason I could not play this game 100% to completion. In various scenarios, you're asked with running errands under a time limit, set against familiar scenes of the DBZ anime. What this really means is that every time you progress through a certain amount of stages in Dragon Mission, DBZ: IW will make you participate in a mandatory fetch quest, footrace, or the horrible "run through all the rings under a time limit" mini-game. It's just freakin' lame. Even worse, the control in these quests is just plain horrible. In the 3D-movement areas, the camera remains rooted to a fixed point no matter where you move, making you adjust it every five seconds while simultaneously trying to find whatever shiny things you're supposed to be collecting or jumping through. So good luck trying to unlock all the characters. Unless you're a die-hard DBZ fan, I can't possibly see anyone playing this mode.

Outside of Dragon Mission you have Dragon Duel to face of against a second player or the CPU. Sadly, that's just about it with the exception of the extra mode. Not much to review here folks, sorry. Fighting is what really matters and guess what, not much different from previous games.

Even at is bargain price of $30 MSRP, this less than stellar game is still not worthy of being picked up. DBZ fans may love it while others, not so much. If you own Burst Limit, Budokai 3, and/or Shin Budokai you can definitely pass on this game. Instead of going out with a bang, the game unfortunately, is nothing more than a fizz.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Best of Budokai on PS2
This is the best of the Budokai series. It came out on 4th November and before I could say T E N K A I C H I my nephew was busy ramming his strategic mind into this superb game with his hands-on as if blowing up worlds isn't too big a deal!
Watch out for the release of the film by 20th Century Fox releasing on 8th April 2009 directed by James Wong with Justin Chatwin as Goku and Chow Yun-Fat as Master Roshi.
All you Goku fans and Dragonballz buffs, go for this game! It is the best of the series.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Best of the budokai series! "litterally"
I got this game the day it came out, and even sold my original Budokai 3 and Tenkaichi 3 for it. And i'd have to say it was worth it. On the back of the box it says "The Best of the Budokai Series"....it is! I loved the original Budokai 3 and played it for 2 years straight never getting tired of it. And this game is pretty much that game with added bonuses such as mini games and Tenkaichi quality cut scenes which are pretty good. Infinite World uses the same capsule skill system as past dbz games where you can purchase your skills, characters, stages, and etc.

The fighting system is the pretty much the same as Budokai 3, not the over-the-shoulder system used in the Tenkaichi series. So 2 players would NOT use split screen which i prefer cause that just got annoying. Everyone that i've played with so far has their own ultimate moves which most the time have animations with them which is fun to watch. I haven't got to play with every character yet cause i haven't earned or bought them yet, but according to the box there are over 40 characters. One major thing that is different from the rest of the budokai series is that you are able to perform your ultimate without going into hyper mode, which makes ultimates more consistent to pull off during a fight.

The music in the game is one of the reasons that i gave the game a 4 star rating, its just kinda annoying and repetitive to me. I usually just go to the options menu and turn off the music. Another reason for the 4 star rating would be the beginning publisher screens that you can't just skip through when you first turn the game on. There are like 6 screens, its just annoying to me.

The mini games are the main difference in this game. I haven't played them all yet, but the ones I have played were very entertaining. These are only found in story mode. My personal favorite so far would have to be trying to catch Bubbles (king kai's monkey) on King Kai's really small planet. It is not as easy as it looks, trust me, the monkey is always throwing bananas at you, lol. Another example of a mini game is running along snake sway (very easy to fall off) with limited time.

Overall, its a great game to add to the DBZ series, and a good finisher for DBZ games on PS2 (actually not really sure if it is). Basically if you liked playing Budokai 3 and just love the DBZ series, then this game will be good for you. Even though I'm not finished with it, I love it already.
