Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great DVD
The tape is great, timing good by seller. It was advertized 2 days later @ $13.99??
This would not hinder me from ordering from this seller again.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Can you ask for anything better?
How much better does it get? The original Stooges with Curly, all restored with nothing removed. Fantastic!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - classic act
I watched these guys when I was a kid and they were classics then. It's so neat to see them in such a quality format. Watching my teenage son latch unto them like I did at his age is "soitenly" a kick for me. Or was it a slap? Or was it a poke? It could be all of the above you knucklehead!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Worth the wait
I assembled my own complete Stooges collection over many years. I got the best quality episodes I could find from multiple sources. Some were just impossible to find in really good quality. Now everyone can have them in wonderfully restored condition. Though I'm not a big fan of Joe Besser, I hope they release all, including the last few with him. Most people praise Curly, well deserved and I agree. But seem to not really appreciate poor Shemp. In my opinion, in his own way, Shemp is as funny as Curly. Not as animated or quite as physical as the younger, pre-stroke Curly. Shemp was nonetheless a gifted verbal and physical comic. I like him a lot. I have an interview that Larry gave shortly before his death. He says how bad he and Moe felt for Shemp to be constantly compared to Curly. They also believed Shemp was as talented as Curly. It didn't take long though for Shemp to grow tired from all the hitting. As good as Moe was at the near-miss, many shots landed for real. Larry said the numb feeling on the left side of his face never really recovered from all the slapping. For sure they are the absolute high priests of low comedy. And I mean that in a fond and affecionate way.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The "extra features" are the endless laughs
After years of watching grainy, skipping, aging-print Three Stooges shorts (mostly the public domain stuff released endlessly by shoddy companies and found in discount bins), the material found on this double-disc set is a real treat. Noticeably missing from this (and any of Sony's releases of this series) are any "extra features", ie, surviving cast interviews, documentaries, etc., but that's more than made up for by the fact that the shorts are beautifully presented, spot-free, grain-free, skip-free.

And at a great price, too!

Personally, though I like Curly very much, I like the other Stooges (including Shemp) better than him. My own favorite Stooge has always been Larry; he seems a bit more level-headed (if any Stooge can be called level-headed) than the manic Curly and authoritative Moe, which makes Moe's constant slapping and disciplining of him that much funnier. In this particular set, one will notice unquestionably that most plots and action revolve around Curly -- with him getting most of the screen time.

Compared to the later, Shemp-era shorts where the action and dialog was more evenly divided among all three members, the Curly-centric nature of this set is very obvious. Notable exceptions are the nazi-satire episodes "You Nazty Spy" and "I'll Never Heil Again," where Moe's resemblance to a certain impudent little Austrian corporal make him the starring character.

Having said all that, however, this set is definitely hilarious all the way through.

My personal favorite moment in this set has to be in "An Ache in Every Stake," when Curly literally shaves a block of ice, and makes small talk with it while doing so, like any friendly barber would. Another great moment (in a classic, all-time episode) is in "A Plumbing We Will Go" when a snooty butler informs Larry that he's ruining the lawn, and Larry tells him "Don't tell me how to do my job, beat it!"

Basically, this set is of the stooges in their prime -- prior to Curly's strokes of the mid-1940s.

I enjoyed the Shemp era as well from 1947 onward, since that era gave Moe and Larry a greater chance to be the center of the action, and of course, Shemp as well, who I consider to be a bit underrated.

Buy this set -- if you're a fan of the stooges, you'll buy it anyway, and if you're not a fan, you will be one after watching these.
