Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good but Why Can't you JUMP!!!!!
This game is really fun but I don't like that they reduced Spider Man's bound to a miniscule hop. The graphics while good could have been better and seemed to have declined from Spider Man 3. The black suit while cool wasn't as immpresive as the one in Spider Man 3, I liked having to wrestle it off rather than just letting it melt off and on you. I know later it says this suit is different but I still I miss the old suit! I know many of you reader's will hate me for comparing it to Spider Man 3 but that's the game I was thinking of when I wrote this comment. Also the cars while fun at first to kick around and throw gets boring and frustrurating after a while. I don't enjoy getting Black points for kicking a car and blowing it up when I was aiming for a crook. While this rarely happens I don't enjoy it when it does. While the swinging is cool it is limited however by the lack of a elongated bound. I know the makers were trying to allow the laws of gravity to shine but this is fantasy for crying out loud!!! No one would want Superman to only be able to fly for 5 seconds so why should Spider Man only be able to jump 2 inches high. Back to the Black suit, besides being able to pick up cars it doesn't seem to increase your strength. Also shouldn't Spider Man be a little more concerned about the suit. After you beat Venom the suit seems to become a part of his daily life and of no concern to him. I would of thought after narrowly escaping the last Black suit he would of shown more concern but no! Don't get me wrong the game is fun but I would of prefered a little bit more. After Spider Man 3 this seemed like sort of a letdown. I loved the combat but if they can overexagerate his speed and strength to that level why can't he jump higher!!!! It seems the acrobatics were set aside in favor of a more complex fighting system. I felt Spider Man 2 and 3 properly showed that. Oh and as for the voice acting in my opinion: Tobey Maguires BETTER!!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best Spidey Game I've ever played!
There are a couple things I need to say before I start this review:
1) I've only played a couple Spidey games: Friend or Foe and the one that came out for Dreamcast (oh, and Maximum Carnage, which was my fav until now).
2). I'm very particular when it comes to wii games, I have a wii, so I am reviewing that version of the game (which I'm sure is the same as the rest, but control is a major factor.

The trick to making a good Wii game is how yo decide to program the moves in the game with the gestures on the Wii-mote. Web of Shadows (WoS) started out with me hating the game. I usually turn my back on a game after only an hour or two (except Iron Man - I only gave that PoS about 10 minutes). However, I love Spider Man, so I 'hung' in there (haha, a pun!). The web swinging requires you to move the Wii-mote down, when I'm used to that gesture as hitting (as with Zelda and Force Unleashed). So it took a while getting used to. But once you make a lap around Manhattan (which takes a while, by the way), you get to be an outstanding web-swinger! Just swinging through the buildings is fun and I've killed at least 2 hours just looking for 'hidden' items. However, the developers made a small flaw in the sensitivity in changing from red to black spidey, which is a tilt of the nunchuck. I constantly find myself changing from red to black spidey (which have different abilities) accidetally because if tilt the nunchuck even slightly during gameplay it triggers the suit-change. This really hurts when I'm in big fights because when I need black abilities, I accidentally change red and vice versa. However, due to the lack of buttons on the wii setup, that was the best way to place the suit-change controls. If tilting the nunchuck did anything else, it would really screw you up (You have no idea how often you unknowingly tilt the nunchuck in a fight until you play this game!)

The story starts off pretty slow, but gets interesting as you get deeper into the plot. I've played the game for about 10 hours now, and I don't know how much I have completed, but I have the feeling I'm not even halfway through. There are guest appearances from everyone (Black cat, Wolverine, Black Widow, Luke Cage), and Spider man is hilarious! There is a point where he realizes he can't defeat the Symbiots on his own and he whips out his cell phone and calls Tony Stark and Reed Richards! His responses are very funny, and there are points in the game when you can choose to be good or evil (red or black spidey). You really have to know your Spider Man characters and facts in order to really understand this game, which makes it even better for Spidey-fans like me!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - All the web-slinging fun a gamer could ask for.
"Spider-Man: Web of Shadows" is the best comic book game I've played in a very long time. Most of them are based off of films and spend all of the budget on hiring the cast to do the voices, obtaining the movie license, and packing cutscenes from the movie into the game. The end result is typically a cute little souvenir for fans for the movie and a distraction for the kids. It comes and goes to the bargain bin in a matter of months. But this time there is no tie-in, just a story to be told featuring your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and some of his best friends and foes. It's not the least bit groundbreaking as there have been many iterations of the webslinger since the Playstation classic that have used many of the same mechanics, but it is a damn good time for comic fans.

The story begins with Spidey in battle with his nemesis Venom and getting tagged when a piece of the symbiote separates from the psychotic villain. So the black suit is back in Peter Parker's life and MJ is less then pleased. But Spidey sems to believe that this symbiote is different from it's parent and holds off on ridding himself of it immediately. This leads to one of the primary attractions of the game. The player is invited to switch freely between the classic Spidey and his symbiote alter-ego throughout thye course of the game. As you progress, each costume earns new powers. The classic outfit is great for agility-based combo attacks and incapacitating foes with webshooters while the black costume is more destructive and is spectacular in it's ability to engage and destroy multiple enemies. But there's a catch. The more time you spend in each costume, the more your alignment is affected. Using the symbiote's powers will eventually lead you to a darker alignment that can change your in-game alliances and lead to a different ending for your character. You are also invited to freely choose which path to take at certain points of the game. Ever wished Spidey would just say yes to a night with Black Cat? Well, MJ is kind of a bitch in this game.....Go for it! Should you save the foes you've been fighting or kid rid of 'em? Whatever you want. But rest assured Luke Cage will not be pleased if you allow his neighborhood gangs to kill each other while he is attempting to broker a peace deal. Anyways, the story escalates from stopping local hooligans to full scale symbiote invasion over the course of the game.

Along the way, you will meet friends and foes that can be summoned to help you in combat. Which ones are available depends on your alignment. Having Vulture
back you up is pretty sweet and riding Rhino around playing bad-guy bowling is fun but they won't show if you've been goody-goody. Wolverine and Black Cat are pretty tolerant around the grey area, but Cage and Moon Knight are only there for you if you're way in the red. Having familiar faces back you up is really cool, but the absence of many of New York's finest is pretty inexplicable. Iron Man and the Fantastic Four are explained away, but what about the X-Men? There are too many of them too account for all of them being gonme except for Logan. And when I went to Hell's Kitchen I was bummed when Daredevil didn't show. Did they really think I'd rather have Moon Knight on my side? There are just a ton of classic characters mysteriously MIA in this game. You'd think Carnage would take an interest or play a part as well. Oh well.

The best part of this game by far is the web-slinging. The physics in this game are rock-solid and give you amazing control as you swing over the streets of NYC. There are tons of little pick-ups scattered that allow you to advance in level and let you really work out the swinging and climbing mechanics as you try to catch 'em all. The combat starts out really simple, but as you advance in level the options that unfold are pretty amazing. In addition to normal combat, there are aerial mechanics and different move sets for vertical wall fighting as well. Cool. This is also the only Spider-Man game I've played where you can use your webs on the bosses. Thank you! It's pretty cool that most of the characters you encounter get captured at some point in the story and the symbiotes manage to duplicate their powers and mass-produce soldiers based on them. Electro and Vulture symbiotes? Believe it. And the fact that so many factions are fighting each other at the end really adds to the chaos even as you swing around the city and see the New York skyline marred by smoke and fire. Kingpin's tech soldiers battling symbiotes battling SHIELD? Why not sit back and see who wins? There are plenty of side missions as well such as rescuing civilians in conjunction with Black Widow's SHIELD troops or helping test their weaponry. No shortage of things to do.

This isn't going down in history as the greatest comic game ever, but it's still a ton of fun. The dialogue and voice-acting is uneven but the quips work more often then not and the characters are mostly well served. One of my favorite moments involves Cage ragging on Spidey's outfit and Parker coming back with " This coming from a guy who was running around with a tiara in his afro?" Classic. Wolvie making fun of emo kids (likely a swipe at the third film) and Spidey attempting to call the heavy-duty superhroes in on his cell phone and getting automated answer systems was hilarious too. The battle for New York is really fun to play and fighting alongside classic heroes and villains is a big plus. Then there's the whole "does everything a spider can" thing. There are few characters better adapted to fun gaming then Spidey is. Most of the elements of this game are spot-on and considering I picked this up for a mere $19.99, "Spider-Man: Web of Shadows" was a hell of a buy. Marvel fans, this is your stop.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - what 3 should have been...
if you enjoyed Spiderman 2, Ultimate Spiderman or even Spiderman 3 then you will No Doubt love this game...as it is the Best to be released in the series. the city has Definitely Increased in Size...reminds me of the NYC in GTA4. the graphics are Very Clean for the 360. the Aerial Fighting is a pure Joy to experience once you get to the Kingpin levels where there will be LOTS of in air combat. the webswinging is about as Fun as it was in Spiderman 2 (thats saying alot) and flows almost Just as smooth as. you can switch between your red and black suit at any given time and each suit has its own strength and weaknesses. i loved the idea of having the allies fight alongside you, that Really add's alot of flavor and fun to the single player experience. the whole game is just Beautiful in every aspect.

my only Issues with the game is the number of MECHS that respawn in the free roam. the whole entire CITY is literally being torn apart by ARMYS OF ROBOTS at one single time :l not to mention the Symbiots in the latter levels. they could have been a bit more Moderate with how frequently the city is Attacked by these enemies. also, WHY IS THERE NO ONLINE? it would have been a BLAST to rip through Endless amounts of mechs, thugs and symbiots with atleast one other person Online...but calling on your Allies to fight along side you makes Completely Ruining these enemies in the streets of NYC a bit more fun..almost as fun as it would be Online :)

overall, this is a Fun game to pick up for that lonely weekend..maybe even play through it a few times since its very short yet entertaining with the choosing of good and evil paths and all. but it wont be long until your on to something else...but for Diehard Spiderman Fans, this is a Must. Great Game...

iLL .

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Amazing
I will keep this simple.

This is probably the best Spider-Man game ever made, seriously.
They got the moves down, the Web Swinging is great, The Cameos are cool, and I actually feel like Spider-man. Sometimes in games involving Superheroes your character feels useless or less powerful then they should be (especially during later levels). That is not the case with this game, no matter the challenge Spider-man has all the abilities (Speed, Strength, Agility) to keep up with even the toughest bosses and the most hectic situations.

If you like the character, get this game.
If you are a hardcore gamer, this might not be challenging enough for you, but it is definitely fun.
