This game is amazing. The newly designed combat design is incredibly fun, and this game is just plain great. I can't figure out why critics gave this bad reviews. This is definitely the best free roaming spider-man game there is.

I am giving it 2 stars because it is a Spidey game. It is a monotonous game, you always do the same, over and over again. It is my personal opinion, but the game is terrible. Voice acting is the worse of any PS3 game that I have played, it is a torture to hear Spiderman talk.

I loved this game. When I got it, it was so well put together and the the story was so interesting I played for hours on end. It's the only game I've played and beat it over and over again. The story is solid, the controls are great and the characters you get to interact with makes this a great game.

A lot of people put this particular Spider-Man title down; I for one loved (and still do!) playing the game. Having grown up in the mid-80's, the Spider-Man I remember was the black costumed Spider-Man for the most part, though in the story it was a cloth replica of his original alien costume. The storyline is not exactly Secret Wars in the terms of plot and writing, but it's still pretty cool to take on a city of symbiotes in the game. The mixture of classic comic book bad guys like Kingpin, Vulture, and so on make it more interesting. I like how you can gain allies to help you in battle. This reminded me of the old Maximum Carnage cartridge on Sega. One of my favorite features of this game, is the ability to switch between Spider-Man's black and red/blue suits at whim. Each costume gives him a variety of different abilities. For example, the red and blue costume focuses on Spidey's agility, speed, and web-based attacks; while conversely the black symbiote will make him more aggressive and powerful, pummeling your foes into the ground. Or wall. Or wherever you may be sticking. :) Also the citizens of New York will react to Spider-Man's suit or actions, cheering the classic red and blue hero on and cowering in fear from the alien suit. Since Activision and Treyarch started doing the 3rd person Spider-Man series each game has pretty much rocked in my opinion. The controls can be a little odd at times, with the camera and angles not playing nice together, but then again what game is perfect? You should definitely rent this at least. If you're a long-time wall crawler fan like I am, go for it and pick up a copy.

Okay, okay, so the graphics could be improved on for the PS3; the voice acting is a bit to be desired; and you have "spider tokens" to collect: SO WHAT!!?? This is what Spider-man 3 SHOULD have been. This is how Spider-man should be played.
The movements that Spider-man makes as you control him are reminiscent of the three recent movies, and that only adds to the fun. Controlling the web-slinger has NEVER been more fun. You've got different attack combos for each suit (red or black), and different abilities. The learning curve is just right and the "training" is actually fun and useful.
Luke Cage, for some reason, knows more about Spidey's abilities than Spidey does, and therefore trains Spider-man (you) on how to move and attack. And it's actually done in a fun and VERY productive way.
I'm 35 and a kid at heart, and I love this game. My 13 year old daughter obviously is interested in different things than I am. But she saw this and was instantly swept up by it. Now both of us are fighting for who gets to play and when.
I just started this last night and have only played for a couple of hours. I am totally sold on this. Activision finally got it right! It's worth the full price!
