Ozma of Oz

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful book
This is a truly delightful book that has captivated our entire family. My almost 6 year old son has been entranced by it for our nightly reads wanting more and more chapters. My 2 year old daughter delights in the pictures and also stays for some of the reads --- she is fascinated by the Wheelers. The book has every element of a great story --- I like it better than the first two (my son likes the first one better because of the movie I think). We all can't wait to read the next one. Don't miss out. Once we have read more, we plan to watch the movie, Return to Oz which is based in part on this book.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Ozma
Of all the Oz books I have read, which is all of them, my favorite is Ozma of OZ.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Ozma is Awesome
This has always been my absolute favorite book of the Oz series. It makes a great read aloud to young children, but I think older kids will like it too, due to some fascinating concepts such as the Wheelers, the Princess with 28 heads, and the Giant with the hammer. In this book, L. Frank Baum also introduces some of his best characters in the entire Oz series: Tik-Tok, the Nome King, and Billina the Hen, who is a delightfully mischievious character (as a child, I was always disappointed that she never made more appearances in future Oz books). "Ozma of Oz" also represents, in my opinion, the best-designed Oz book and this particular edition features color throughout, marvelous typography, and absolutely gorgeous illustrations by John R. Neill. I highly recommend this book and believe no children's library should be without it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Ozma of Oz (Books of Wonder)
Ozma of Oz being third book in the Oz series tells the story of how Dorothy the little girl from Kansas returns to Oz and meets the princess Iznam Ticktack, the hen Billina and the hungry tiger and her old pals the scarecrow, tinman and the cowardly lion. The story is splendid and the descriptors are as good as ever. The illustrations are also well done and I verily love this series. Baum is on the same level as Lewis Carroll, Tolkien, Rowling to mention a few splendid authors. I am highly antcipating the next book in the series and will start to read it right away.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Thorndike Large Print's Oz Book/s are a RIP-OFF!!
I originally ordered a "Ozma of Oz" book from Amazon.com and instead of getting a 'Books of Wonder Edition' (which I should've made sure to select, but luckily ordered in through Dymmocks) I got the above Thorndike Large Print edition, and that's a lousy copy. And this is why . . .
I already had a Dover Paperback Edition of 'Ozma' and of course the pictures were in black-and-white. When I got Thorndike's edition, it was WORSE!! The pictures weren't just in black-and-white, but the lines were also fuzzy and unclear, the writing was in big letters (thus the printing publisher, LARGE-PRINT) and one of the pictures (L. Frank Baum dedicating this book to all the little boys and girls and Dorothys out there) had a squibble on Dorothy's dress. Obviously they took Dover's b&w pictures and *badly* copied them. Not only were the pictures fuzzy, but also many (thankfully not all) of them were manipulated from their original size: the small pictures were big, and the pictures/chapters themselves were on different pages than on earlier and BETTER PUBLISHED editions like 'Books of Wonder' and 'Dover'. At least 'Dover' had the pictures exactly in the right place.
If you don't have a "Ozma of Oz" book at all, I would suggest you to order a 'BOOKS OF WONDER' Edition from a great book-store (Angus & Robertson, Dymmocks, Books Kinokuniya, etc.) and ignore the Thorndike edition, because then you won't have to get rid of or be stuck with a lousy copy (only the ORIGINAL Books of Wonder Edition has the COLOURFUL full-page plates/chapter-title pages AND 2 forgotten side-illustrations on 2 full-page colour plates, which you can see when you search the BOOKS OF WONDER Edition on pages 69 & 89 by entering the following: 'Dorothy opened her tin dinner-pail' and '"The Princess won't like it," said the Maid'). On page 89 of the ORIGINAL Books of Wonder ozma, we see that John R. Neill did draw all 30 heads of Langwidere, although 2 or 3 aren't exactly beautiful.
I wouldn't be surprised if ALL the Thorndike Oz Books were the same as this!
