The Invincible Iron Man: The Complete Collection Software

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Totally Invincible!
Before I bought this I hadn't read very many of these comics. My paper collection only has a few issues. I am glad I can read the whole story, including the "alternate world" storyline from 96. This is a great addition to my collection and will provide me with years of reading enjoyment. I give it 10 stars!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best product for comic lovers ever
Complete run, easy to use. Love, love, love this product. Shame on you Marvel for cancelling the contract with the company that produces these. I have been collecting comics for 30 years and have a massive collection, but this product was awesome for new readers that wanted to read entire collections. Unfortunately, Marvel pulled the plug, so planned collections for Thor, Daredevil and others may never see the light of day. At least we got a few before they got greedy. Snap them up from Amazon while you can, there won't be any more made!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - GET THIS QUICK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WORTH EVERY PENNY. GET THIS WHILE YOU STILL CAN. THEY ARE DISCONTINUING THE SERIES.mARVEL WOULDN'T RENEW THE LICENCES TO GIT AND NO MORE OF THESE AWESOME COLLECTIONS WILL BE MADE.I HIGHLY RECOMEND THEM.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Okay, but some annoying problems related to printing
Boy, talk about Stealth Armor (i.e. Stealth product). I'm a big Iron Man fan (have almost every issue published), and I was not even aware that this product was out. I do not know who is handling the advertising for it, but they are not doing a good job. I knew that Avengers, Captain America, etc. similar products were out there and they were more visible in terms of advertising, but did not see a peep about this one. I found it quite by accident when I did a search on Amazon. I figured Marvel would eventually release this one (especially since the IM movie is coming out next year), but I guess they are using "stealth" advertising for this one ; )

Anyway, the product ships in a big box containing a DVD. Not much else. It is okay (has most all the Iron Man & Tales of Suspense stuff. The issues are complete - even containing the Ads, and more importantly, the Captain America portions in the later Tales of Suspense issues. Kind of a bonus since I liked the early Cap America stuff too.

The only real issues I have with this product are:

1) The scanning resolution is not that great. Even at over 100% it barely fills the screen on my computer (I am using 1400 x 1050 resolution). You have to set the doc to over 100% in Acrobat Reader to get a decent size at which to read everything. This kind of tells me that the probably did not use a good resolution in scanning. However, it is acceptable. I just generally prefer higher resolution scans of stuff.

2) The Marvel watermark appears on every single printed page. And it is not subtle. It is relatively noticeable. This annoys the heck out of me. However, this only appears on printed pages, not when you read it in Acrobat Reader.

3) There is a single solid black page prefacing every issue. Not a big deal really, but you need to start printing from page 2 to avoid getting a solid black screen of nothing printed out (of course it has the Marvel watermark on it also).

4) I wish they would have given an option or included a set of special or second copy scan issues that would permit you to printout the full comic as a comic. In other words, If you print out to 11x17 both sides, you could approximate a printout of the comic such that when folded properly and stapled in the middle you actually get the comic with the pages in the correct sequence. This would be nice because it would allow me to print out the few issues I am missing in my collection to act as placeholders until I was able to buy them like, oh TOS 39 for instance ; ). This of course is not a problem with the product, but it would have been a nice feature request.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Awesome Collection!
The almost complete collection of Iron Man comics published from his first appearance in Tales Of Suspense #39 back in 1963 through last December, 2006. 43 years worth of Iron Man comics! It's almost too good to be true. But then there's that big "almost" I put in my first sentence.

GIT just missed perfection with this one. Similar to their Avengers DVD-Rom (other reviewers have pointed out that the six issues of Giant-Sized Avengers which had story continuations from the main series were not included on that disc), GIT missed one issue here. They did put the one issue of Giant-Sized Iron Man on this disc, but it was only a reprint issue containing three stories already on the disc from their original TOS comics. What they left out this time, quite inadvertently, I'm sure, was Iron Man and Sub-Mariner #1.

This issue was a one-shot that bridged the gap between TOS #99 and Iron Man #1. Only in the seventies could you buy a #1 issue of a comic and come in on the middle of a storyline! But that's exactly what Marvel did back then. The storyline that was running in TOS was continued into IM & SM #1 and then into IM #1. I'm sure that the folks at GIT weren't even aware of the issue and that's why it was left out. Luckily, Marvel has that issue on their website in their digital comics archive, so when you get to that point on this disc, you can read that one story there.

So, in closing, getting over 500 issues of comics, spanning 43 years, for a price like this, even with the one exception, is well worth it.
