This was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid and it is still, after viewing it again, a great show. The writers of Quantum Leap must have been inspired by this series. Such a tragedy about about Jon-Erik Hexum, he was definitely on his way to stardom.

Yep! I was there in 1982, watching this on TV. I loved this show then and was happy to see it come out on DVD. The older guy/John Erik-Hexum is a time-traveler. His job is to pop in and out of history and tweak things that are not exactly right, so they can happen the way they are supposed to. I don't remember them ever explaining WHY they needed tweaking when they already happened once. While I'm sure it must be the "overlapping time & space/there is no linear time theory," I don't think they ever actually SAID it. Anyway, John pops into current times (with a bang) into this young boy's (age 10/12?)room (actually hanging out his window). In all the excitement, the boy's dog grabs the guide book and John and the boy fall out the window. To keep from dying in the fall, John leaps them into another time and place. The problem is, that John needs the guide book to navigate around and no longer has it. John doesn't really know history either, but the boy's father was a history buff or teacher, so the boy knows all about what actually happened in history when they pop in and out of the different time periods. They keep popping around history, fixing things that went astray, and trying to get the boy back to current times.
It's a neat show for the action as well as for the history lessons that you get. Although the show seemed to be quite successful, a tragic accident while filming took the life of John, which is why he quickly disappeared from sight. Still, there are a lot of good episodes here. The show does not need an end. It's a series of adventures.

"Voyagers" was very well done for its decade. The acting was well done for themost part and, as a teacher, the educational value is great!

I loved this series. It was an interesting history lesson, where you actually learned while being entertained. It had a bad time slot and never really had a chance rating wise but was really good.
It was worth watching just to see Jon Erik-Hexum someone else we lost way too soon.
It holds up well, very little is dated since it is basically historical events.

Unlike most "Voyagers!" reviewers who were in their early teens or younger, I was 30 plus years of age when this show came on and I was hooked. As soon as I knew it was to be cancelled, I protested to the network and also arranged to tape as many episodes as possible. (VHS had recently been invented and I got about eight grainy episodes.) I'd rather have the DVD and finally do. Every episode is as much fun as I remember from a quarter of a century ago.
For you 'youngsters,' I suspect the series had some of its inspiration from "The Time Tunnel" in the 1960's, which I watched as a young boy. In my mid-fifties, I'm still hooked on time travel, owning "Quantum Leap" as well as "Time Tunnel" on DVD.
I highly recommend "Voyagers!" and wish it had survived for more seasons. It was better TV than most mindless productions produced both then and now.
