Scooby-Doo! Haunted House Game Toys

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Great fun if you like to waste your time and money
This game was only fun for my family insofar as we laughed and laughed every time another piece fell off. Every time someone had to push the ghost down, one of us would yell, "call the repairman!" Traps almost spring, hinges jam, and players fall off the board (creating amusing family controversy over which player used to be on which space). One of the most fun and entertaining challenges of this game was trying to figure out where the players start, which is not indicated on the board or in the instructions. The game is especially fun for four players, as the instructions state that players may not occupy the same space, and must therefore stack up behind one another in a delightful log-jam configuration. After a rollicking ten minutes of sheer side-splitting frustration, we declared our six-year-old the winner and then selected another game that might tempt us to play it more than once.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Don't bother
This game is almost a complete waste of money. My 4 year old son loves Scooby-doo and will move the toys around the game board for a bit, but they are very unstable and repeatedly fall over. It is a bit frustrating and fails to hold his interest for very long because of its poor construction. He normally has a very good, long attention span and can play many other games with no problem (Hungry Hippos, Hi-Ho CherryO, memory, go fish, Candy Land). The Scooby game is good for about ten minutes (I don't last that long), whereas we can play the other games together for an hour or more.

My 7 year-old nephew reacted similarly.

Cons:
1. Very poor directions on assembly; small pictures and not descriptive. They would be better off not including them. It is easier to assemble by looking at the picture on the box.

2. The game directions are pretty poor as well, it doesn't tell you what to do if a character can't move because the cage is down, or if more than one character are the same space, etc.

3. The game board a pieces are very easily knocked over, and you need to be very careful when pushing down the ghost on top to not knock over all of the pieces.

4. The beginning spaces are very hard to get to without knocking into some part of the haunted house and knocking down all of the pieces currently on the board.

5. Can't store the game in the box without taking the board apart.

Pros:
1. Counting (I think you are better off with Hi Ho Cherry-O for that).

2. The traps are kind of neat if you just want to see the characters trapped or knocked off and don't mind the characters all getting knocked over when you push down on the ghost, and it is a Scooby haunted house.

I think they would have been much smarter to just make a haunted house play house with actual figurines and traps and have it cost more.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Classic fun for the entire family
This game won the award from www.hauntedhouseparts.com for best board game of Christmas 2007. It ranks up there with the other classic 3D haunted house games such as Which Witch, Green Ghost, and the IDEAL Haunted House. The loud ruurrrrrrrr sound that it makes when the booby traps go will make you jump out of your shoes!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Worth while
My son is a huge Scooby fan so he would love it no matter what. My only complaint is that the differences in the clues are kinda of subtle and easily confused. Still we have had a lot of fun with this game.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great game for the Scooby fan
I bought this for my 4-year old son, a die-hard Scooby fan. We had a great time playing the game and is one of his favorites.

The CONS
- assembly instructions may as well be left out of the directions as here's a toy with a lot of pieces with instructions in one tiny tiny pictures. In any case, not too difficult to figure out using the pictures on the box
- While the mansion itself is fairly sturdy, the pieces not so much. When the ghost on the top is pushed (to release the traps), need to be careful to push slowly or you'll knock all the pieces off the board.
- Have to dissassemmble the gamne to get it back into the box. This is true of most games but assembly of this one takes a bit longer.

The PROS
- Very cute 3-D game. Traps work well
- Game is fairly straight forward and quick. Nothing worse than getting into a game with a little one that takes too long :)
- Good for little ones learning counting. They can spin the spinner and count the steps.
- Each push of the ghost releases different traps so the kids never know exactly what will happen next
