We bought this for my son in December 2007 and he is having a blast playing with it, but it is very flimsy. Pieces fall off easily and I am putting it back together about every other day because my 2 year old isn't as careful with it as my 5 year old son. At a retail price of $50, I would definitely not recommend it, however we got it thru Amazon at 70% off, and at that price I would buy it again because both kids do enjoy playing with it.

I read the reviews after I had ordered this toy but before I received it and was worried about the quality. When my son opened this Christmas morning we had to put it together immediately. I was not disappointed at all. The product seemed fine to me. The cardboard backing didn't stay on too well so I had to put more tape on it, but the backing could just as easily be left off (it does not affect the play at all). I am not sure why others were so disappointed in this product. I did notice my sons is different from the picture shown. I think they may have done some improvements on it. If your son is a Pokemon fan, like mine, I highly recommend this toy.

My 8-year-old-son son saw this on the shelf at Target earlier this year for fifty bucks, and has wanted it ever since. We told him it was a big waste of money, and there was no way we would buy it for him, but if he wanted to save his money, that was fine. His solution? Ask Santa for "that $50 pokemon toy." I admired his ingenuity, but wasn't thrilled about getting it, especially when I found the 1 star reviews on it here at Amazon. That is, until I saw that it was on sale for eleven bucks. For eleven dollars, Santa felt good getting it.
Christmas morning, he was thrilled. Then he opened it up. The box is covered in pictures of a bunch of different Pokemon toys all playing and battling happily in the pokemon treehouse. Shortly after opening the box, he came up to me and said "Mom, this toy only comes with one Raichu. What a rip off!" Which led to a great discussion about marketing, and the meaning of "caveat emptor" (let the buyer beware).
As for everyone's complaints about the toy's quality, I couldn't comment simply because my son hasn't played with it for a single second. It's sitting in a jumbled pile of plastic parts on the floor of his room. And if that doesn't tell you the truth about this product, I don't know what will.
Overall, for eleven dollars, this toy was worth the lesson it taught my son about the reality of advertising.

Note from the 8-year-old: The elevator is horrible (Raichu always gets stuck) but the marble shooter is great. The pieces stay together pretty well, but we didn't bother putting on the cardboard pieces since they looked really flimsy. Note from Mom: we knew that this had a 1-star review at the time it went on the Christmas list, my Pokemon fanatic did not care. The original price was ridiculous, but for the $[...] we paid, definitely worth the price for the time my boys have spent playing with it. While the toy itself isn't so hot, it does provide a setting for imaginative play.
