"Life In Cartoon Motion" is the impressive, if somewhat campy debut album from the Lebanon-born Mika. There have been a lot of comparisons to the great Freddy Mercury, and while their voices are similar, I would like to compare Mika to Robbie Williams. There are times on the CD where I would put money on the fact that Robbie was singing. Not only that, but the spirit of both artists are similar in that they both have fun with their CD's. Mika doesn't take himself too seriously and it shows in the upbeat, amusing style of this CD.
What is great about this CD is that it has a great mixture between fun, catchy songs and ballad type songs. The CD starts with two fun, catchy, campy tracks "Grace Kelly" and "Lollipop" that are sung in his marked falsetto. Next is "My Interpretation" which is a slower ballad type song that shows off Mika's lower range. "Love Today" is another of is fun songs, followed by "Relax, Take It Easy" which is mellow, yet still fun. "Erase" is an awesome ballad that really showcases Mika's singing chops and "Happy Ending" is theatrical and wonderful.
While I think that the CD was generally good, I feel like Mika still needs some work lyrically and needs to back off the campy, silly songs just a little bit.
I would usually give a CD like this three out of five stars, but it is just so catchy and enjoyable that I will bump it up to four stars.

The songs on this CD are amazing. It takes me back to the 80's and I totally agree wth all the others who say Mika sounds just like Fred Mercury- what a fresh great sound!!!!!

This is the first CD that has MADE me like every last one of its songs during the first listen. Typically I have to get used to all of the other songs, besides the favorite that I purchased the CD for. These songs are all so catchy and fun and Mika is an absolutely adorable person! The message that he puts across in some of his songs is admirable as well.
His talent is evident and his originality and creativity is a much needed breath of fresh air. I'm taking a deep breath right now, and I love it.
My only worry? I just might get sick of these songs because I listen to them so often!
