Before watching this movie, all I knew was that it was a direct-to-dvd film, and was rumored to be a true sequel to the original film becasue it would include Lance Henriksen. I did not have high expectations at all, but I did expect it to live up to the title of sequel and not reinvent the story like Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings did.
I was worried that the scenes with Lance Henriksen were going to be reused footage "flashbacks" from the original movie, but my worries were put to rest. Lance Henriksen isn't in the film for longer than a few minutes at a time, but his presence as the ghost of Ed Harley was welcomed, and his connection to Pumpkinhead helped to tie this movie to the original.
The bad CGI was glaringly obvious, and is the only real low point for me. It just didn't need to be in the movie, and made it hard to get back into the film after seeing it. I think this has happened to other people and left such a bad tasted in their mouths that they couldn't give a better review of this movie.
What helped me through the movie most were the references to the original film. Ed Harley's necklace, Ed Harley himself, the witch, Bunt Wallace (The grown version of the boy in the first film), and even the pumpkin patch. All this carried the film for me and made it an enjoyable watch.

Obviously Lance Henriksen did it for the money; he hardly appears at all in this second pathetic sequel to a genuinely frightening original. The special effects are so bad in this movie there is actually a scene in which a pumpkinhead doll is sitting in a church window, completely unmoving--this supposedly representing a satanically vicious monster capable of killing anything in its path. Frankly, my brother and I made home movies with 'special effects' like that when we were 12! The only saving grace is Doug Bradley's performance and Lance's cameos, and neither of those is sufficent to merit your time or consideration. Okay, if you have OCD and HAVE to watch or own all of the Pumkinhead movies, go right ahead. Otherwise, your life is better spent cleaning your belly button. Slowly.

I loved the original "Pumpkinhead". A first rate B-horror movie. The acting wasn't bad, the story was interesting, spooky and didn't deal with excessive gore. I was hoping this one would be more in the vein of the original than the first sequel. I was wrong.
This film features every horror cliche' in the book sans sex: maggoty corpses, gratuitous gore, bad dialogue, bad acting, etc. Completely UN-scary. Didn't these filmmakers bother to watch the original and ask themselves why it attracted an audience? The original was the BLUEPRINT, folks! You should have studied it!
Don't be fooled by the positive reviews posted on this site. I'm betting they were done either by people who worked on this film or their family members. Either way they have a vested interest in separating you from your money by getting you to rent or purchase this colossal waste of energy and time.

This movie sucked! I loved the first, the second was good, the fourth was very good, but this third one sucked! It was so boring, and so confusing. I almost fell asleep watching this, no kidding. If you have to, rent this movie, but I'm warning you, I will probably suck!

This is a dull entry in a dull series. I thought the first Pumpkinhead was a masterpiece, the second I thought sucked quite frankly, and this pushes the still going series back to respectable. Here the Puritan aspect is played up in the sets and costumes, combining fantasy with real life to create like a celestial feeling. I would recommend this to see once or twice, but it doesn't come close to the masterpiece the first Pumpkinhead was. Though it is a lot better than the awful Pumpkinhead II Blood Wings. I kinda liked it, it's not bad.
