This was a set of DVDs hard to stop viewing once I got started watching it. Some of the stories could be really creepy, but they were really very good. This series still has all its 'magic'.

As a kid, I thought this was an interesting program. Liked it even more seeing it now as an adult! Facinating!

Some shows age well and some do not. Very Best of One Step Beyond is solidly on the latter category. Perhaps cutting edge when they were originally written, the stories now are old, tired and stale, nothing more than a collection of children's ghost tales and things that go bump in the night. Even an episode with Patrick Macnee, my favorite actor of all time, was terminally boring and passe.

"One Step Beyond" was an anthology television series that broadcast on ABC from 1959 to 1961, airing 9 months prior to "The Twilight Zone". It was created by Merwin Gerard, and hosted by John Newland. Similar to "The Twilight Zone" yet different as the stories in this anthology are said to be based on true events. "One Step Beyond" dealt with all kinds of subjects(such as mind-altering drugs, premonition of death, astral projection, ghosts & more). The show was remade in the 70s as "The Next Step Beyond" with John Newland returning as the host & ran for one season. The show itself features alot of well-known actors & actresses these days(such as Robert Blake, Elizabeth Montgomery, Charles Bronson, and Christopher Lee). This collection has 50 of the 96 episodes in total, with the 'Very Best' episodes of the series. I, myself, was not familiar with the series til I came across this collection of episodes in a bargain bin at my local Wal-Mart shopping center. I bought it due to it's similarity to "The Twilight Zone", a show I love watching. In all honesty, I find "One Step Beyond" to be the better show due to the fact that it dealt with true events. We all know, though, that "The Twilight Zone" won the hearts of the spectators.
If you're a big fan of "The Twilight Zone" or anthology shows in general(like "Thriller", "Chillers", "Urban Gothic" or "The Ray Bradbury Theater"); you ought to give "One Step Beyond" a shot. For this collection, you've got more than half of all the episodes that aired with only 46 more to find and you won't find it at a better price.
