Looney Tunes - Golden Collection, Volume Four DVD

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Can't Go Wrong With Loony Tunes
I found this DVD to be a great collection of the original Loony Tunes you won't see on t.V. anymore.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Lets get to work!
Like my past two purchaes of the Walt Disney Treasures I was unabel to get this DVD at the time it was released, but I finally got it the other day so better late than never as they say. Anywhey theres a lot of work to be done here. First of all the casing is awful because the disc's sit on top of each other and if one of the discs were to be removed they might crack.

Now on to the DVD content. We don't have Whoopi or Leonard talking about how cartoons refelct the times in which they were made instead we have an FBI like disclaimer on every singel disc that's all the same idea and you can't skip it it's really annoying then theres a collection devoted to Speedy, those cartoons are all the same and after awhile they get boring. Meanwhile, Foghorn Leghorn hasan't seen the light of day since volume 3 and it's not fair he's just as funny as the other characters are.

In conclusion, there's room for a lot of improvement!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
THIS ITEM ARRIVED THREE WEEKS LATE AFTER AMAZON PROMISED IT WAS IN STOCK AND WOULD BE SHIPPED OUT SUPER-SAVER TO BE RECEIVED IN 10 DAYS. AFTER 30 DAYS, I RECEIVED IT, SEVERAL WEEKS AFTER I NEEDED IT FOR A GIFT. FORGET ABOUT TRYING TO GET CREDIT. I WASTE SO MUCH TIME TRYING TO GET A CREDIT, IT WAS REDICULOUS. I WENT TO WALMART AND GOT THE SAME DISCS FOR THE SAME PRICE THE SAME DAY. AMAZON IS TERRIBLE!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Praise for the Looney Tunes Golden Collections
I just love the fact that Warner Brothers finally had the common sense to collect their cartoons, restore them, and distribute them to us!!!
I mean honestly, where can you see the Looney Tunes on TV anymore?!?! For some reason one of the longest running groups of cartoon characters have been pushed to obscure cable station and younger children don't really get to See Bugs Bunny on TV anymore and that's a shame!! It's more of an shame that we adults have to suffer from the lack of these classic cartoons as well!!
Well these DVDs have changed all that!!
In my book each of these DVD collections have been excellent and Volume 4 is no exception!!
I was really excited to finally get a lot of Speedy Gonzalez cartoons collected for the first time on DVD as well as the first meeting of Wile E Coyote and Bugs Bunny (being that Wile E Coyote is my favorite Looney Tunes character).
The thing that always makes these collections wonderful is the extras, and there is no shortage on extras in this newest collection. We get more Private Snafu military shorts, biographies, lost cartoons, openings, and much more!!
Here's hoping that Warner Brothers CONTINUES to release ALL there Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies cartoons for all of us to see!!!

Warning to some parents: These cartoons were created in a time where stereotypes were acceptable forms of entertainment. These cartoons reflect that time and age and should not be used as a babysitting tool! Instead sit down and watch them with your kids and use it as a tool to educate them about tolerance and respect!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Keep 'em Coming!
LTGC Vol. 4...
The Good:
Some great Bugs shorts.
A whole disk of Tashlin cartoons
The 1st appearance of "Speedy"
More "non-PC" material than the other sets (Growning a spine, WB?).
Disk 4 is surprisingly entertaining.
NO LAMEBRAINED "PC" DISCLAIMER FROM "WHOOPI THE NINCOMPOOP"!!

The Bad:
Not enought Clampett cartoons!
No commentaries from "John K."
Depatie-Freling GARBAGE!
Cheaped-out packaging
More of Michael Barrier's "thrill a minute" commentaries.

On the whole, another excellent collection with a few more stinkers than usual thrown in.

As usual, Disc 1 (the Bugs disk) is great. Two of my favorites... "Southern Fried Rabbit" (Bugs's transformation from a banjo-pickin' field hand to a whupped slave to Abraham Lincoln is both brilliant and hysterically funny!) and "Mississippi Hare" have finally seen the light of day. Mckimson, Jones and Freling all make at least one primo appearance here. Shorts such as "8 Ball Bunny", "Barbary Coast Bunny", "Hurdy-Gurdy Hare", "Rabbit Hood" and "Knighty Knight Bugs" make this a tough one to beat. I think the only clunker is "Rabbit Romeo".

Disc 2- an entertaining retrospective of some of Frank Tashlin's work.
I really like the old B&W cartoons of Tashlin a lot, and the color ones vary from the completely forgettable ("Little Pancho Vanilla", "Now that Summer is Gone" to the excellent (the hilarious "Stupid Cupid", "Plane Daffy"). Some incorrect humor in a few of these- in fact, "Porky's Railroad" has one of the funniest non-PC darkie gags in it ever made (for those of us old enough to remember "the expression"- you'll know what I mean!).

Disc 3 is all "Speedy". Unlike Amazon's lame PC reviewer, I think that the early Speedy cartoons were pretty funny. I also don't see any negative stereotypes (especially now, when so many real-life beaners are playing "Speedy" trying to illegally cross our border). What does suck are the newer Depatie-Freling cartoons on this disk. Bad animation, bad stories, bad cartoons.

Disk 4 is about cats, and there are some great ones here, the brilliant Art Davis's "Dough-Re-Meow" being the frontrunner (Louie the parrot slapping around a purple and gasping Heathcliffe the cat shouting "Breathe, stupid, Breathe! Ya forgot ta breathe again!" always cracks me up). Other winners are Jones's "The Aristo-Cat" and "Cat Feud" (featuring a great WB bulldog), McKimson's "Kiddin' the Kitten" and "A Peck O' Trouble (featuring "Dodsworth" the cat), "The Unexpected Pest" (one of McKimson's and Sylvester's funniest), and let's not forget Freling's superb "Mouse and Garden". Throw in the only 2 cartoons in this set by Bob Clampett, and you've got a pretty good disk here!

Maybe not as good overall as the previous collections, but it still gets 5 stars, and leaves me looking forward to LTGC Vol. 5!
