There is one big difference in watching this movie in 2007 and watching it in 1986 - now it's your money you are spending and not your parents.
I was born in 1977, so I remember just being old enough (9 years old) to sit with just my little 7 year-old brother beside me when this movie rocked us. Sure, I had watched as many episodes as possible on Saturdays (I likely saw them all), but this movie offered new venues for the classic and new characters of Transformers.
What is interesting is that I saw this movie only one time - back in the summer of 1986 with my kid brother. When I saw it available on DVD recently, I only remembered a couple things. (1) That there were two cuss words in the script (plus "hell" in one of the songs), and (2) the story was epic. Funny what you remember, no? I also remember that I was a little prude back then, so I was quite disgruntled to hear that sour language, let alone to actually watch Transformers die! I didn't think it was possible, especially not seeing any cartoon character die, even G.I. Joe and his adversaries. Everybody just had bad aim back in the 80s... until this movie came out. All of a sudden, cartoons are dying. (Robots, even!)
I just received my DVDs today. Of course, I just got done watching the movie right now. (Couldn't wait.) Here is what I have to say about this DVD set.
First off, the movie rocked me right here, right now. Sure, I forgot lots of details as I only saw this movie once before, but this tale is gripping! I also wanted to get out my Aqua Net hairspray and headbang to the soundtrack. Dude, this piece is so awesome. They say that they re-did the animation and coloring, but I didn't give a hoot. I just sat there rockin' out, man. Every shot, every line, every friggin' toy I wish my parents had the money to buy me... everything was there.
Of course, I am 30 now, and now I got money. Problem: Mom tossed my two Transformers some time during the late 80s, and those "friends" I had (the ones with the Transformers I didn't have) are long gone. I am contemplating dropping green to get these toys, or maybe just start getting DVDs in rabid fashion.
So let me just wrap up this "review." BUY THE DAMN DVD. I don't care how old you are; I don't care if you think glam rock is for nancy boys - BUY THE DAMN DVD. It is SO much better than what crap they've had on TV since then. (Power Rangers? Eat my shorts, pansies.) You will love the storyline; you will love the action; you will dig the animation as it feels like you are living a comic book; and you will headbang once or twice. If you ever loved toys, and if you are male (let's face it, ladies, My Little Pony, Care Bears, Cabbage Patch Kids, She-Ra, and Gem are your babies) you will watch this and go, "Why don't they make movies like this anymore...? Why don't they rock like this anymore...? Why is everything so darn sissy anymore...? Bring back Reagan! Bring back the 80s! Bring back THE TRANSFORMERS!"
$16 is worth it my friends, but only because you get added features galore. They have nerd commentaries, and you know those are the best. They also have "Easter eggs" (special surprises) that show the very toy commercials that had us waking our parents up on Saturdays - "Mom... Dad... Can you buy me Transformers today?" The commentaries, the special features, and that blasted, rockin' flick are so worth $16. Do it, man.
Alright... I gotta sleep now. My dreams already have a theme song to rock to. Buy it. Nostalgia rules!!!

I personally have not watched it, however my boyfriend and his brother (who i bought them for) loved it.

Considering this cartoon is 20 years old, it's still a fun movie to watch, but if you're not into the Transformers world, you probably won't care for it. It comes with both widescreen and fullscreen formats, and the extras are all pretty neat.

This is a slice of hometown pie right here. Can't put into words how much nostalgia this movie brings back for me. The dialogue is better then most production movies writing. Way better script than some comic book movies.
Just awesome....Autobots, Roll Out.

Other then the deaths of most of the original G1 characters, this movie is awesome! If you are a true G1 Transformers fan then you owe it to yourself to get this DVD!
