Twilight Zone: The Complete Definitive Collection DVD

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - DVD Menus, Sub Menus, and Liner Notes Give Away Surprise Endings!
Great set, clean and sharp transfers, love the collection, BUT...

WARNING TO NEW VIEWERS:

(1) DO NOT for ANY REASON watch OR listen to the main DVD Menu! Just hit the mute button until the images go away. REASON: The main menu stupidly gives away the plot twists for several classic episodes, spoiling the surprises for those who haven't seen them.

(2) When you choose an episode, DO NOT look below the top left corner; just hit "Enter" or "Play." REASON: The chapter selections for a number of episodes GIVE AWAY PLOT TWISTS with their descriptions and pictures.

(3) Do NOT read the liner notes included in each season box! Same reason as above: Pictures and descriptions give away plot points, to the point where fans like me say, "Why on earth did they show that picture? It completely gives away the entire episode!"

I'm flabbergasted that the folks that put these together set the episodes up this way. I played many episodes for my older children, but the DVD menu had ruined the endings for several episodes for them.

So, to summarize:
(a) Bravo!
(b) ARRRGHH!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Two words: Absolutely magnificent
This set is a must for any science fiction, horror or anthology TV fan. How can you beat all of the original Twilight Zone episodes for less than $1 an episode. Tons written by Richard Matheson, Rod Serling, too many classic episodes to mention. You will not regret for one moment this purchase, just enjoy it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Perfect Night Cap
Let's face it, if you grew up in the United States from the late 1960's onward, "The Twilight Zone" was part of your childhood. Either staying up late with siblings or parents, or if you were brave enough, by yourself, catching the odd "Zone" rerun here or there on the old UHF channels, or on late night cable TV. I'm sure most of us remember our childhood impressions of first seeing "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" or "The Invaders". Watching "Zone" as a kid was a rite of passage most of us have gone through, and something we all remember.

Now, fifty years after the series first premiered the show still seems as fresh and original as when it first aired. For the most part, the stories are timeless, and while "Zone" is mostly remembered for it's shocking tales of the sci-fi and horror variety, it's almost too easy to forget about the excellent dramatic tales like "The Big Tall Wish" or "A Passage for Trumpet" from season 1 or "Nothing in the Dark" from Season 2. The series also featured a good many comedic episodes such as "Hocus-Pocus and Frisby" of "Mr. Garrity and the Graves". Basically "The Twilight Zone" offers something for everyone.

Over the past year or so my wife and I have been tucking ourselves in at night by watching 1 or 2 episodes before bed. ("The Twilight Zone" is the type of show that should only be watched when the moon is out). Sure, there are a few clunkers sprinkled here or there throughout the series, but for a show lasting 5 years, with multiple writers, directors, and a revolving cast, the are surprisingly few. Last night we finished the last disk in this set, and the last original episode with "The Bewitchin' Pool". It has been a lot of fun watching these shows in order, and has become a nice nightly tradition for us. I'm going to miss Rod Serling's narration every evening.

There is a plethora of extras, the shows look fantastic, the sound is phenomenal. This set was put together by true fans of the show, and it's a fitting showcase for one of television's most iconic shows.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Greatest Sci Fi / Fantasy series ever!!
Can't say anything to take away from these fine reviews of the greatest Sci Fi/Fantasy tv series ever done! It spawned 2 re-makes, one in the 80's and a movie, and early at the turn of the century the other. Still the original is still the best. I own the original sets with the 1st season having the Zicree book included. Yes, but I paid top dollar for the complete sets in seperate purchases. This is a true bargain at this price. Having viewed all the episodes when aired in late 1959 thru the early 60's I must say the quality is pristine and excellent, unlike the way I watched it on a black & white set those many years ago.
With the exception of not having the "One Step Beyond" intro music, this is by far the most enjoyable, truly lasting tv series you will ever own.
Nuff Said!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - What has happened to tv?
Really what can be said about the Twilight Zone that hasn't already been said? Essentially it is the greatest television series of it's genre ever created. From the opening as the chilling music plays while Rod Serling narrates you can't help but get completely drawn in. No matter what time frame in life you come from there enjoyment to be had by any age. I myself am 27 and find the Twilight Zone some of the best work tv has ever seen. I urge anyone out there that hasn't given it a chance to sit back and watch a few episodes. You will not be disappointed.

Some real standouts for the series are "Mirror Image," "The After Hours," "Nick of Time," "The Invaders," "Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?," "The Dummy," "The Masks, and "The Midnight Sun." Honestly my list could go on for pages since I love almost everyone. Well worth the price for any fan whose willing to watch most of the 4th of July marathon.
