Just got this figure (via Amazon) and I must say i'm very impressed! As a huge fan of G1 Transformers, I felt like a kid on Christmas when this arrived at my house. The detail is extremely impressive and it looks great standing next to my other transformers (especially the alternators/binaltech figures). The only problems were the difficulty in getting Prime to hold his gun correctly (which other people already mentioned) and the slight difficulty I had in transforming him (although it's probably because I just got the figure and it doesn't transform exactly like the original Prime figure from 1984). The good, however, highly outweights the bad as there isn't much you can knock about this toy. Parents, I would NOT recommend this toy for kids under 10 but I definitely recommend it for any adult fan of the transformers, especially fans of Generation 1.

This is the Optimus Prime that should have been made 20 years age. It was a difficult decision whether to open it or save it in the original packaging. Finally nostalgia won out and I had to transform him. It was amazing. The transformation took time but it was worth the wait. I felt like a kid again. I am totally satified with this product.

At $65, and with a display base, its pretty obvious that Optimus was not meant to be used as a child's toy. Its the 20th anniversary Optimus, its very clearly aimed at those of us who watched the big guy battle the evils of the Decepticons on the original airing, and really, those are the conditions that this piece should be judged on.
For starters, the detail in this guy is insane. Individually jointed fingers (Optimus can *almost* flip you off he's so flexible, just the fingers are curved enough that they don't really stand out on their own), the vents on his legs open, his mouthpiece moves via a button in the back to make it look like he's talking, its just amazing. Right down to having posable toes. And thats not even getting into things like the commlinks on his arms (one features Grimlock on the flip up screen, the other Megatron)
While it is true that his grip on his blaster is less than perfect, I have to re-iterate that Optimus here is meant to be posed and put on display, he wasn't meant to have to hold onto his gun while an 8 year old whips him around.
With all of the articulation and posability he has in robot mode, the fact that he actually transforms is just icing on the cake. I would still have given this thing a 4 out of 5 stars, even if he didn't transform, he's that good. And while his truck mode isn't nearly as sexy as his robot mode, I say it again, he's meant to be posed and put on display, why in the world would you want to pose him as a truck?
Optimus Prime is currently standing tall on my desk at work, watching over my paperwork, and I couldn't be happier. To quote this very piece, "Autobots, transform and ROLL OUT!"

I could not be happier with this version of Optimus Prime. As a kid from the 80's who grew up loving G1 Transformers (the ONLY version of Transformers as far as I'm concerned!) this brings back so many memories. If only this was the toy I had growing up! (I do have my original Optimus Prime displayed right next to this version.)
As far as some of the cons mentioned in some of the previous reviews - I agree with them. However, they are very minor cons. At first I was upset that it was not Peter Cullen's voice, but I quickly got over that. This figure is too cool to worry about a small detail such as the voice-chip.
If you are a G1 (or any other) Transformers fan, buy this now. You won't be disappointed!

This sits on my desk at work and always gets a "wow, that's cool" from people that see it. This is how Prime should have been made when we were kids. There is just no way that our parents would have spent $70 on a toy that we'd breal in 10 minutes... Awesome model, not for kids!
