I know that this item is no longer for sale on Amazon and that no one will probably read this review but I have to write it anyway.
I bought this figure just under a year ago at a local Wal Mart. I purchased the Hasbro figure and was whole-heartedly impressed. The detail, the articulation, the features and accessories are all designed to feel like this guy popped right out of the cartoon and onto my desk!
As many other people were, I also was disappointed with the short smoke stacks, but there are many people out there who are making the long smokestacks as a custom job. I bought a pair of die cast ones relatively cheap and now I have the best of both worlds! I loved the battle damage paint scheme, it added a little touch of realism for me, which is why I bought the Hasbro figure. The feet do tend to be a bit loose, but after a little research I found acceptable ways of fixing that. As I began to purge my "collection" of toys and such I decided that this figure is going to be the only one I keep. I feel I made the right choice as he is obviously going to be on display for quite some time!

IT LOOKS LIKE A GOOD LARGE REPRODUCTION, BUT LOOKS ARE MISLEADING. I THOUGHT THIS OPTIMUS PRIME WOULD BE A REPRODUCTION OF THE ORIGINAL OPTIMUS PRIME BUT IT ISN'T AFTER OPENING THE PACKAGE, IT IS ABOUT 13 INCHES TALL, CANNOT STAND WELL SINCE IT'S FEET IS PLASTIC AND LOOSELY DETACHES OR COMES LOOSE FROM THE LEG. AND THE BODY IS MADE FROM METAL. THE HANDS CANNOT GRIP THE GUNS WELL SINCE YOU CAN OPEN AND CLOSE THE GRIP. IF YOU DO PURCHASE IT AND OPEN, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND. I WISH I COULD RETURN IT BUT I OPENED THE PACKAGE A MONTH AFTER I RECIEVED THIS DISAPPOINTING 20TH ANNVER. OPTIMUS PRIME. YOU WERE WARNED.

This is, by far, the coolest toy i've ever owned. i owned the original Optimus Prime action figure back when i was a kid, and i always loved that toy. it was sad when he started to wear out... his legs wouldn't stay down, and he'd fold on himself and fall over backward... it was a very undignified end to my Optimus Prime action figure. i grew up, and now have kids of my own, and i've kept an eye through beast wars and machine wars... they amused me. but now, to see the old toys back, and bigger and better! when i first saw the alternator's version of Hound i almost cried... he was the first transformer i ever owned. and what an improvement that was. wouldn't i love to see them come out with a volkswagon beetle bumblebee! anyway, then i heard about the new OP. i, of course, coveted, but given it's price tag, it was a low priority on my "this is real life and i need the cash" list. i happened to come into some cash, and bought it on a childish whim.
GET IT.
i feel like i am twelve again, and have been given the coolest toy in town. not only that, but i'm the first kid on the block to have one. envy me, and covet that which i own, you inferior other children who aren't as fortunate as me to have a toy this cool. okay, i digress...
you can put him into the coolest poses... he is fully ball and socket jointed, so even each individual finger moves! his toes bend! his faceplate moves when you want him to talk, for god's sake! and the matrix of leadership in his chest cavity that lights up and glows blue??? HELLO!!! that's what i always wanted it to do in the first place! dudes, if any of you are like me, and absolutely loved this show as a kid, and are still a bit of a kid at heart, get this freakin toy. do it. it's worth it. screw the rent. get the toy.

Whether you are young in age, simply young at heart, new to the Transformers franchise, a long time collector, or a returning Tfan... rest assured THIS is the Optimus Prime you've been waiting for!
Regardless of which version you decide to purchase, the domestic Hasbro version 20th Prime or the Japan version by Takara Masterpiece Prime (MPP), both are stellar examples of toy engineering. 20th Prime and MPP use the most advance toy engineering to date and it shows!
Those of you who are complaining about the size, weight and cost, please quit complaining. Both MPP and 20th Prime are fantastic works of imagination, they truly deserve to be called the CROWNING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE ENTIRE TF TOYLINE!
Yes, he costs more, save up! He is worth it even at full retail (MPP)$100+tax or (20th) $80+tax. Prime is awesome, so much attention and thought was spent in the creation of this work of art. You will notice the details, the paint application, the colors are perfect, the articulation is fantastic, the weight from the diecast is nice. All of these features make 20th Prime and MPP the BEST Prime ever created and I dare venture to say for the record, the BEST PRIME THAT WILL EVER BE CREATED!
IMO he does not have to match the sizing of the Alternators or Binaltech TFs. Prime is in an entirely different league of his own. Also, Unicron is not die-cast, nor is he the largest TF ever, though we all know he should be. Despite all of these flaws we still relish the fact Unicron was finally released. Toywise, G1 and RiD Fortress Maximus could stomp on Unicron, but who cares? The same can be said about 20th and MPP, this version of Prime is simply the BEST TF ever, no comparisons, no other TF comes remotely close. Should MPP be improved? No. This is as good as it gets! Forget about adding the gimmicks, voices, more lights, the trailer, or roller. Yes forget about them!
ENJOY and appreciate the fact that NOW is the BEST time to be a TF collector. Newbie, fair weather TF, old school collectors REJOICE!
Optimus Prime is finally here in a way we could've only dreamt of 20 years ago! Cheers!
