In terms of gameplay, graphics, originality, etc, this beats out any of the past Mario games. The graphics blew me away. It really looks like a high-quality cartoon rather than a game. The movement with the Wii remote and nunchuk feels oddly natural even after decades of playing Mario games with the classic video game controller. I also think it's pretty cool how Mario can literally run around small planets in true 3-D mode. I haven't seen another game quite like it.
Unfortunately, the game is simply too long to really rank as fun. The game designers seem to have fallen into the classic trap of believing that gamers actually care about the story. We don't. We want action and to kill bad guys. However, in Mario Galaxy, it is impossible to skip the cutscenes (which are long and many). In terms of the dialogue and cutscenes, this almost feels like a Zelda-style RPG rather than a Mario game. I played for over an hour and only saw a few Goombas and one boss (a giant piranha plant). If I could at least have avoided the cutscenes, I probably could have gotten much further in the game for that time I played. I'm just too busy right now to beat a game that will probably take days, if not weeks, to beat. That's too bad, because Mario Galaxy had the potential to be the best mario game since Mario 64.

Super Mario Galaxy is the 3rd in the series of collecting shines or stars (1: Super Mario 64, 2: Super Mario Sunshine). It starts out very nicely, with story book like graphics and then turning into a 3D adventure, with Bowser capturing Peach. Eventually, you learn a move similar to the spin jump, and then go rescue a Grand Star. Then you rescue stars as you go along (called Power Stars) and then facing Bowser and Bowser Jr. The game itself is very crisp and has a vast set of designs. The overall gameplay is polished, but can leave comething to be desired. Now that i got the pros out of the way, let's talk about the cons. This one may sound silly, but it's big to me. Look up a picture of a Gringill. Creepy right? You will see quite a few of these. Another flaw is that even though this game is easy, it can seem too easy, and a little frustrating at times (Purple Coin Missions, Optional Stars Mission, Loopdeswoop). Nonetheless, Super Mario Galaxy is a great game, and past the Gringills, one of the best games of all time.

At first I thought the game was medeocre until I got use to it. In the end it offered a lot of very good platformming game play. The story is forgettable for adults, but is fun to play through for the platforming puzzles. There is depth for more moderate gamers to find and collect all stars. Getting more lives is very easy so you can keep playing nearly endlessly, but some levels and bosses are quite difficult. It might be too difficult for many uncoordinated casual gamers not used to the tough control needed in some places. It is too hard for my wife.
The wii motion controls seem to work pretty well. The galaxy apsect overturns the normal up-down expectation since things change when you jump onto another planet or walk over the side of an object. At can give you a headache at first until you get used to it. I nearly put it down and stopped playing but finally got used to it.

I have to say that this is the best Wii game I've played yet! The storyline isn't necessarily all that novel or interesting (and it's a bit childish at times) but the gameplay is awesome. The controls are relatively easy to pick up, especially if you've played past Mario games (like Mario 64). It's not incredibly difficult, but some of the levels and bosses do provide a challenge. The large numbers of worlds and levels will keep you playing for a while, as well as the need to return to past levels to collect "star bits". The best feature is the clever use of "gravity" that allows you to walk all the way around spherical "planets"...it's a great twist on a classic game.

Mario galaxy is a very good game and has no evil or blood which makes it less violent and even more fun then T rated games! I have a great 10 and 8 year old who fights for the player one remote! I tell you, if you want this, then you better get it!
