I'm 23 and I have been playing MG since I was 13 with MGS. Some of the magic is gone, do in part by the fact that everything is more wonderful when you are really young and in part because the game has become a movie. I'm giving this game something like 4.5 stars but I don't feel like I'm giving a MG game a rating. It's something else. It's become something else. If you play through the game, you realize that that is the point. Everything has changed. Snake is old. Snake is tired. And so is MGS... and it's really sad.
I love this game!

Game is awesome. Don't let the long cutscenes turn you off from it. You can pause them which helps a lot. Best game on the ps3 hands down.

For those who have never played any of the Metal Gear games (you should go get them theres a collection out now) you might be alittle lost. You may also perhaps find fault with this game's seeminly relentless storytelling. For fans of the series you will absolutely love this game. Everything in this game gets it "just right". The cutscenes don't get rediculously preachy (MGS2 and 3 I'm looking at you) although they get close. The characters are ingenously portrayed and the story is the best since MGS1 since your not thrown too many unexplained curve balls. In fact one of the main reasons this game's story is so satisfying is that it actually answers the ludicrous number of twists thrown at us at the end of Metal Gear Solid 2, and we've been waiting a longgggg time for some resolve. Also, we finally get to play as Solid Snake again for the entire game, the soldier hero we've come to love over the years (Raiden stays nicely in the cutscenes).
Gameplay and graphics wise this game is incredible. While the graphics arent as impressive as Crysis' they are really close and are definitely some of the best anyone has ever seen, period (and I would know I'm a graphics whore). From the insanely realistic character animations to the presence of cloth that reacts realisticly, this game is truly a technological feat. Concerning gameplay this is definitely THE BEST game in the series, you are given a rediculous number of tricks up your sleeve to hide and fight from your awesome camoflauge suit to custom rifles. Every gameplay aspect that was good from the first three games is brought over (cqc, first person view, etc), and excellent new ones are brought in as well. In particular the fatigue bar is really immersive since it truly drives home the hard fact that Snake is dying. I can only give you an example of just one scenario that can play out; your caught, you go hide, a guard with a search team comes across you hiding behind a crate. You think your screwed but then you get up grab the guard by the neck and hold him hostage in front of his buddies while you whip out your pistol and procede to shoot the entire team in the head and then finally slit the hostage's throat. Also, the boss battles are incredible, best in the series.
Overall I would say this is the best game in the MGS line rivaled only by first Metal Gear Solid in terms of story. Go get it!

Without a doubt a must have if you own a PS3. Simple to get the hang of and very fun to exploit Snakes strengths in this game. People will complain about the lengthy cutscenes, but in my opinion that just gets you deeper in the game.
