Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Finally a FPS Zombie based game, but could be better
As a huge fan of the genre, and a Romero fan to the core, I thouroughly enjoyed this game solely based on it's zombie killing FPS status. Only two thoughts kept running through my mind as I played it. One, it's too short. There are alot of levels, but they seem to be over quickly and don't offer huge challenges. Two, WHAT ABOUT THE DANG HEADSHOTS?!?! I would expect a game that has been collaberated on by the man himself would stick to the most basic philosiphy in his films. Center mass shot's don't work, only headshots can kill a zombie! Also, less important, but worth mentioning, is the ballistics characteristics of the weapons. It seems a lowly .22 can down a zombie with three center mass shots, but it takes two from a .357. I expect that they included the .22 as a homage to Max Brooks "Zombie Survival Guide", But I was left wanting when I got ahold of some serious firepower.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A great, under-appreciated survival horror game
I really enjoyed this game. The suspense and scares were plentiful, and it challenged me as a gamer.

I've been a long-time fan of zombie films and survival horror games--since the original Resident Evil on the Playstation--and feel that this game comes as close to putting one into the role of a Romero hero as any game has done thus far. The enemies are relentless, the ammo supply is just barely adequate, and the music chills the spine. And the story is engaging and interesting--a worthy prequel to the Land Of The Dead film.

This game has been unfairly maligned. If you like zombie films, and survival horror games, you owe it to yourself to check out this under-appreciated masterpiece.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - A big disappointment! Should have been so much better!
Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of the George Romero Dead films, with Dawn of the Dead being my favorite, and I really enjoyed the recent Land of the Dead. When I heard that there was going to finally be a video game based on the Dead films I was freaking out. And then to find out it was going to be a first person shooter was even better. My excitement towards this game let me overlook the fact that this game was being released quickly and would be released at a cheaper price than most new releases. Well I should not have let my excitement get the better of me. This game is a huge disappointment. The graphics are okay but could be so much better than what they are. The movement of the character is awful and the hit detection when you shoot the zombies is bad. No matter where you shoot them it doesn't matter. Even as a true fan of the Romero films I cannot recommend this game. But I know that true fans, such as myself, will ignore the criticisms and still want to play this. So, if you really have to, rent it. In the end you will be glad that you did.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Could Have been ALOT better
As a guy who has seen almost every zombie movie ever made, I had to pick this one up. While it's not entirely dissapointing, certain aspects did upset me. For example, the Xbox Live multiplayer levels are too small..which is bad because playing on Live is pretty much the most fun you can have with this game as you'll find the single player campaign gets old pretty quick. However, the first couple of missions on single player are classic; like when you're inside your house and they bust down the doors to get to you and when you go through the cornfield at night to get to your neighbors house only to find them zombie food. After that it becomes one boring level after another. Another complaint is, as other reviewers have quoted, the zombies seem to take a fixed number of shots to take down. The only weapon capable of killing with one shot is the revolver and you literally have to line it up perfectly in the top-middle part of their head for it to work. Anyway, this is a VERY different game which ya might like for under $30.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Not fun
In most zombie/survival games, the difficulty consists of the lack of ammo. Here, you have dozens of bullets.

So, where's the difficulty? In two things:

1-Instead of a headshot, zombies require a FIXED number of shots to go down. That means, a unarmed zombie will take 2 shots to go down, an armed one 4, and so on. Also, it doesn't matter where you shoot him- you can shoot him between the eyes or in the belly, but it will ALWAYS require two shots to go down.

2-But that still wasn't enough difficulty for the designers. So they decided to surround the player with zombies. That's right, even when you are in a tight hallway, the designers will find ways to throw zombies where you are not lookin'- zombies will fall down behind you trough holes in the roof. And they don't make any sound! Amazing! So a 200kg fatass or a 80 year old lady can jump down behind you without making ANY sound like some kind of CIA operative in a secret mission.

Not fun. Both things totally ruin the inmersion.
