Eric Johnson - Live From Austin Tx DVD

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Abnorrmal playing. This guy must be an extraterrestrial...
No Vai. No Satriani. No Malmsteen. Of course, I'm joking. Music has a lot of diferente textures, styles and patterns, so there is room for every kind of music and every kind of guitar player.

But Mr. Johnson is altogether in another league. This short lenght video (less that one hour) gives you the full scope of the enormous, almost out of this planet talent of this guitarrist.

Well, see for yourself. Man, I had no idea you could do THAT much with a Fender...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Magnificence from the days when rock DIDN'T suck
Allright, allright, I confess, I did NOT buy this from Amazon. I didn't know this DVD existed, I just happened to stumble upon it while Christmas shopping at...Borders. (Crash of thunder!! Whinnying of horses!!)

Hell, I had never even heard of EJ untill one fateful day in the early 90's when I first heard "Cliffs of Dover" on the radio. Having survived the 70's, and (mostly) enjoyed the 80's, I was worried about the 90's. EJ's album Ah Via Musicom seemed to indicate that music would be allright. Sadly, that was not to be. Soon we would be under full "Seattle Sound" assault. "Grunge" came along and destroyed rock-and-roll. Despite a few decent songs here and there, R&R has been crap for nigh onto 16 years now.

But we can at least hope that it will come back. Until then, musical reactionaries like me will have to be satisfied with great perfomances (no PBS pun intended) from the past. This concert is almost 20 years old, and it still sounds as fresh as the day it came out. Sit back, listen, and weep for the destruction that Cobain, Vedder, et al hath wrought upon popular music.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Where has this guy been hiding?
I can't believe that I never heard of Eric Johnson until Eric Clapton's first Crossroad's concert. At that concert, Eric Johnson amazed me with his sond "Desert Rose". Then I found his "Live from Austin" DVD. I love it and had to have the CD also. This guy is a phenom who doesn't just shred. He, and his talented band, play beautiful music.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Count me in!
Count me in as another person who keeps her overplayed VHS tape that was copied when I happened to come across the performance on ACL. Luckily, we had recently seen this same tour and I have been hooked as an Eric Johnson fan BAD since. My personal favorite songs are his own Hendrix renditions, and I can't get enough of all of it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Historical Show
I watched this concert on Austin City Limits when it first aired and was blown away by Eric's playing. Amazing.
Now I am seeing it again plus there is a lot of material here that did not air. The sound is well mixed and the camera work is better than most "music videos"
If you are an EJ fan you need to check this one out. Worth the price of admission.
