Graco ComfortSport Newborn/Toddler Carseat

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Almost impossible to adjust the straps when rear-facing!
My daughter seems very comfy in this carseat and it is rated well for safety according to Consumer Reports. HOWEVER, I imagine that they did NOT consider the need to get a child out of the carseat quickly in the "safety" rating (i.e., in the event of emergency). The problem when REAR-FACING is that the strap adjustment release is blocked by the back of the automobile's seat when the carseat is properly leveled (according to the level indicator on the side of the carseat). In order to adjust the straps, I have to cram my hand between the back of the automobile's seat and the carseat just to access the strap adjustment. In our minivan the problem is bad, but in our truck, it is IMPOSSIBLE - and these are newer vehicles which should not be a problem! Also, the strap release lever gets stuck in the "release" position because it is stuck against the back of the automobile's seat, so we have to remember to manually push the release back down every time we strap her in, otherwise the straps don't stay snug. It is ridiculous. We have used this carseat like this for about two months and I can't stand it any longer. IF this carseat was re-designed to move the strap adjustment up higher on the carseat so that it was not blocked by the back of the seat, it would be a great product.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - I hate this car seat!!
We started using this carseat when my son was 5months because he outgrew his infant seat. Its been a month now and I hate this seat. I love the padding, it seems super comfy and my son falls asleep instantly in it but when he does, his head falls forward. The seat seems too upright to hold an infant. I called Graco to complain about the seat and they told me that he will grow into soon. He's 30 inches long and can't fit into an infant seat but is too small for a convertible seat that made for an infant/toddler??? They told me to place more towels underneath of it to recline it more. We already had towels under it and when we placed more the level indicator was in the red. When I told them this, they told me that was okay. Why even put the indicator on the seat if you're going to tell people to ignore it? I am very unhappy with the seat and the company. Our stroller, infant seat, and pack-n-play are all from Graco and thankfully, we have had no problem with them because I would love to know what they would say about them.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Impossible to adjust straps in rear facing position
We purchased this seat for our 7 month old son. We have used many Graco products in the past and felt that this seat would suit our needs. I love the leveling bar that the seat has, it takes all of the guess work out of installation. However, we found that it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to adjust the straps when the seat is in the rear facing position. By the time you worked your hand down to the strap lever, the seat wasn't tight in the car anymore. After a week of struggling with this seat, we returned it and purchased the Evenflo Triump 5 (with the rollers on the side to adjust the straps) and we love it.

Overall, I think that this would be a good seat for forward facing, but it's not very easy to use for rear facing.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Daughter is eating the seat
We are having major problems with this seat, and I would never recommend it. As you read this, keep in mind that my daughter is 21 mos and in the 50th percentile in height and 35th in weight. We bought this seat when she was about 13 mos old, and installed it forward facing. Three big reasons why this seat is headed for the dumpster:

1. The slot where the strap comes up from the bottom and through the seat has deteriorated. My daughter sometimes likes to turn her sippy cup upside down and shake it so it drips on the seat, so perhaps that was the cause. However, she does the same thing while in the Britax in my husband's vehicle, and it has not damaged the seat. Regardless, there is a troubling hole there now and it's getting larger because she picks at the materials. Sometimes, I'll look behind me just as she's pulling a petrified Cheerio from the deep recesses of that black hole and the look on her face says for all the world: "Should I eat this thing?" She's usually very discriminating (I'm not kidding), so I don't worry much, but yesterday I was pulling her out, and the freshly scrubbed and brushed child I'd placed in the seat now had fishy breath. That's it. The seat's gotta go. Who knows what she ate, and to top it off, come to think of it, who knows what of those deteriorated materials had attached to whatever morsel she'd consumed. It's gotta go.

2. It has always been difficult to keep the straps from twisting, and I finally just gave up one day. I can't loosen the straps anymore--the lever is just stuck. Putting my petite daughter in this seat is an uncomfortable experience for her and for me. When I compare it to how easily we adjust and strap her into the Britax, this seat is a real clunker. Though the straps are very snug, in the back of my mind, I am always wondering how they will hold her in a collision, if something isn't going to give way at the worst possible moment.

3. My daughter can push her arms through the straps. I'll turn around and see her completely exposed to danger, save the lap straps, looking at me like, "What? Did I do something wrong?" No, you didn't, I'll think. For the umpteenth time, Mommy just forgot to move up the puzzle piece that holds the straps together so you couldn't do your Houdini act. And then I say, again to myself of course, Why in the heck do I have to keep adjusting that thing? She's not growing like a weed or anything. Oh, oh, oh, I forgot: that piece has moved back down for that umpteenth time because it's a poorly manufactured seat that needs to be replaced altogether.

The only redeemable quality of this seat, for us, is that it is comfortable, practically like a sleeping pill for my daughter. She falls fast asleep with no problem if she happens to be in it during her naptime, or if the ride is long and she's bored of singing.

That all said, my final assessment is that when my daughter is in this seat, all Momma could spring for was coach on a nearly bankrupt airline, while Daddy has her riding in first class to London on some swanky jet. I wouldn't mind so much if I had more control over the meal she was served.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Lot's of problems with this car seat
The belts don't hold tight, always escaping the clip that is suppose to hold them together forcing removing the car seat to fix the problem. A major inconvinience. I had to duck tape the clip in the back to stop this problem...

The security button (which releases the belts) is hold by two screws on plastic, which of course don't last usage making the plastic break around the screws making them loose.
