What on earth happened to the picture quality! Neither of the previous two seasons released looked like this! It's not poor enough NOT to purchase, but 20th Century Fox is sure putting their reputation to shame here. I certainly hope the last volume comes out with a little more effort put into it.

I've looked forward to having LIS on DVD for quite some time. I had hoped that Kevin Burns and 20th Century Fox would stop milking the franchise and perhaps make the effort to invest a little bit back into it after all these years. But, alas, I was wrong.
The transfer of the 3rd season episodes is weak, to say the least. The episodes are soft, fuzzy, and lacking detail. They are looking old and tired, much worse than the first season, which wasn't so good either. Only the 2nd season episodes come close to looking decent on DVD.
I was really looking forward to the 3rd season on DVD because many of the stories were quite good. But the weak transfers takes much of the joy out of it.
Normally I wouldn't recommend a purchase under these conditions, but since it is unlikely we'll ever see the money invested to do good, digitally remastered transfers from the original negatives of this series you might as well buy it now. But it pains me to reward Kevin Burns (the license holder for the LIS franchise, so he does have input into these releases) and 20th Century Fox for the cheap corner cutting of these DVD sets. The series deserved better.
[Edit]
Seeing another post here about this DVD set looking better played on DVD player and TV, I popped this set into my Denon DVD player and viewed the episodes on my 36" Sony XBR.
I haven't changed my opinion one bit. The transfer still looks weak and blurry, lacking resolution. They look as if they were mastered from 16mm instead of 35mm material. I'm not sure what they used as a source for the mastering of these episodes, but it is obvious that there was no quality control done.
The reason it looks somewhat better on a TV versus a PC is that a PC's higher resolution reveals more of the tranfer flaws than a DVD player/TV combination will.
I do note that different companies have been used to master the releases of Voyage, Time Tunnel, and Land of the Giants than the one that did LIS.

I have not ordered this set yet, but will when they release both volumes. I agree with most everyone that this is the best show from the 1960's on dvd and I'm glad that it's been released. It's not the first season, but it is better than season two, for the most part. Now, if only they would release "Land of the Giants" and "The Time Tunnel" as well.
I like "The Great Vegetable Rebellion"! I'm probably the only one that does!

This last season of LOST IN SPACE is what I believe the best season for extensive JUPITER 2 flight sequences as well as the use of the new SPACE POD; never mentioned in the visual tour of the JUPITER 2 spaceship as seen in the opening of "THE RELUCTANT STOWAWAY"!!!! My favorite episodes are "CONDEMNED OF SPACE"/ "VISIT TO A HOSTILE PLANET"/ "HUNTER'S MOON": where the JUPITER 2 crash-lands a third and last time/ "THE SPACE CREATURE"/ "FLIGHT INTO THE FUTURE"/ "THE TIME MERCHANT"/ "ANTI-MATTER MAN" and lastly "TARGET EARTH" the last great episode of LOST IN SPACE!!!!
What's neat about the crash-landing in "HUNTER'S MOON", and the emergency landing in "FLIGHT INTO THE FUTURE" is the fact that the sequence is in reversal: in "HUNTER'S MOON" the crash-landing appears from left to right/ in "FLIGHT INTO THE FUTURE" from right to left!!!! Two other spectacular shots of the JUPITER 2 are filmed in the departure of Manitou Junction, Michigan in "VISIT TO A HOSTILE PLANET" and in the opening of "DEADLIEST OF THE SPECIES"!!!! This includes the full-size version of the JUPITER2 in "VISIT" as well!!!!
All in all I'm pleased to own this collection (NO MATTER WHAT THE QUALITY IS....DOES IT REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE???? NOT TO ME IN THE LEAST!!!!), and look forward to Volume 2, later on!!!!
The extensive footage of the JUPITER 2 makes this season the best to me!!!! It far surpasses the ludicrious and stupid episodes of Season 2, with the exception of "BLAST-OFF INTO SPACE"/ "THE WILD ADVENTURE"/ "FORBIDDEN WORLD": Especially the horrific crashlanding at the opening and finally "PRISONERS OF SPACE"!!!!
At least in the third season, even after crash-landing on "HUNTER's MOON", the Robinson expedition was not marooned on another alien planet the whole season, like the previous two; they were able to explore space deeper and experience other adventures as well!!!! Even so they're still out there in the deep void of space still trying to reach ALPHA CENTAURI!!!!
Whatever the reason, LOST IN SPACE will always be a great adventure to the stars that I will never outgrow!!!! It's a part of my life I will always thoroughly enjoy again and again!!!!
As for Volume 2: ONLY TIME WILL TELL!!!!

Ok I got Season 1 and 2 and have Season 3 Vol 1 on order, My Question is Where and when are they going to come out with the rest of Season 3. As in Vol 2??
I must say that this is my favorite show from the '60's
With all the "stupid" shows that are on TV nowadays.
