I consider myself an unequivocal movie connoisseur with a highly malleable and flexible internal movie evaluation schema. For instance, many movies that receive abysmal reviews can end up in my nearly cherished category. The common thread through these is some redeeming quality that particularly appeals to me, be it a particular actor/actress, a time period depicted, a setting element (e.g., a beach), highly creative camera work, a great plot, etc. If this one quality is especially appealing to me (I pretty much enjoy anything set on a beach or on a skiing mountain, or set in Halloween), I can easily ignore otherwise shockingly bad remaining elements. That said, that one quality is woefully and completely absent from Haunted House. The budget is non-existent; this in of itself is not a necessary entertainment bar, but the team did nothing to mitigate its otherwise nasty consequences. The camera work is terrible, the sets/lighting terrible, the sound terrible, etc. Second, the story is completely lacking. The plot, even if discoverable by someone far more motivated by me, is so frequently interrupted by lack-of-talent-exposing extraneous sequences to render it incomprehensible and, frankly, just not worth the 75 minutes of my life I'll never get back. Do yourself a favor, there are more than enough adequate other options to pick from your preferred movie repository.

This film was entertaining and has some interesting qualities. Slow in the middle, which I can see would be a big let down for those expecting non-stop horror and don't care for character development in this genre. But the film delivers and makes real the character of the ghost, with a fast-paced final third of the film, which I liked. It's creepy and stayed with me for a few days. I also really enjoyed the humor in the film, especially the scene with the two filmmakers when they realize that their original plans to scare the others is an abysmal failure. It's very funny and real. There is some good acting in this film and an excellent score. Not bad for a micro-low budget indie.

Haunted house is another Asylum production. This movie is nothing more than a glorified home video (and not a good one). I have seen better movies on cable-access. There is nothing to recommend about this movie. They should show this movie to the prisoners at GITMO. It'll have them confessing to anything. A little more than a hour long. An hour I'll never get back..
Don't watch it!!!!

The film takes a stab at capturing some of the realism of the original Blair Witch project and reality TV. The story itself is entertaining and could easily be used again to greater effect. However, this movie only gets 2 stars for a number of reasons.
1. There is little to no action in the first hour of the film. It is just people talking about little to nothing, with no special effects, and a minuscule amount of action. It's nearly painful to watch.
2. The biggest point of realism in this film is when the two filmmakers discuss wanting to do more but not having any budget for special effects or doing what they want. I felt that was probably VERY real.
The last fifteen minutes are faster paced with more effects and wrap the film up nicely. Overall, this is a nice movie to relax with if you're ready for the first hour to be dull. Asylum had made better movies and I look forward to seeing them evolve.

Okay, so I saw the cover for this movie at the video store and desided, why not. I'm all about the horror flix. I sat thur the hour and 14 min movie. And I now wish I hadn't. It was by far the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. Even worst than Kazzam. For real. If you love yourself or the people your with. Please don't watch this movie.
