G.I. Joe - Season 2, Part 1 DVD

In association with Amazon.com

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - G.I. JOE Season 2 Part 1 DVD set that was released by Rhino is a true disappointment.
Let me start off by making one thing clear I love G.I. JOE as much today as I did when I was a child back in the 1980's The animation in G.I. JOE was very high grade for it's time. The show used a large pallet of colors and the quality checking was leaps and bounds beyond one of my other favorites of the time The Transformers. The stories were actually quite well written and equally well acted. Taking all of these things in to consideration I personally feel that The G.I. JOE Season 2 Part 1 DVD set that was released by Rhino is a true disappointment. Rhino took obvious shortcuts with this set! (VIDEO) The video quality on these DVD's is actually rather good, although there is some very obvious grain and dirt visible throughout. These visual blemishes could have bean VERY EASILY REPAIRED! (AUDIO) The original broadcast audio is relatively clear and easy to hear although it is in;as its name suggests its original mono sound. Both the 2.0 stereo and 5.1 stereo options sound FAR BETTER than the original broadcast mono! Witch brings up the question what is my complaint? The answer is that Rhino obviously used the British soundtrack including all the idiotic hacked up re dubs for the U.S. DVD release! Nonsense such as calling Sergeant Slaughter Sergeant Slammer and G.I. Joe Action Force! These dubs were badly done in the first place! The voices that were used for most of the conversion from G.I. Joe to Action Force were NOT even close to the originals. In addition to this the lines were very poorly read! Converting them to stereo just makes it all the more obvious! Rhino should be ashamed of them selves for using the British stereo instead of doing a proper re mastering job of there own! Thus making the stereo options to damned annoying to be anything else other than truly WORTHLESS! Rhino very clearly did nothing more than take the British release and convert it from PAL to NTSC. Granted This problem only seems to be present in Arise Serpentor Arise part 5 yet since the problem exists at all I call it evidence of a cop out! This kind of pathetic cop out is a TRUE OUTRAGE to fans such as my self who watched these episodes when they were first broadcast back in 1986.
These DVD's are now out of print and buying the sets can run you as much as $120.00 OR MORE per set! Due to the combination of the high prices and lame cop outs of this release by Rhino the best I can do is recommend it as rental!
SHAME ON YOU RHINO!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Yo Joe!
More of the great G.I. Joe cartoon series. It is sad that Rhino will not be putting out Season 2, Part 2. I would have liked to had the whole series on DVD.

As it stands, this is a great set. The cartoons are fun for kids and even adults wanting to relive a little of their youth.

These G.I. Joe cartoons from the 80's had a lot of values and thoughts put into them that is missing from the cartoons of today. This is so much better then the Anime crap that kids get force feed from every channel today.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great set! Even with limited number of episodes.
There are some great stories here. And it's at least a part of a season, not like many other cartoon shows that get a couple episodes released here and there. But Sony really needs to either rerelease the series or finish it up. We've been waiting a long time already. Even after all of these years, I find the series to be good fun entertainment.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Yo-Joe
This season 2 Part 1 should be part of everyone's video collection. Their's no better way to enjoy it then inside your living room. This video has a lot of action and adventure the animation I give it 9/10 go get this case.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A little fresh news on Season 2 Part 2
As some have noticed the second set of season two has not been released. Rhino lost the rights to the Sunbow series and Sony Entertainment picked them up. Who knows when or if Sony will re-release them?

The 5.1 soundtrack has an error during the last episode of "Arise Serpentor, Arise" that contains the UK version, hence the different names. Just put the soundtrack back to "original broadcast" and you'll be set.

I hope this helps, if you have any further questions, I'll try to help xerofall@comcast.net
