The Winds of War DVD

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The Winds of War
A Stellar cast and excellent direction and production bring to life Herman Wouk's novel. Each character portrays a different epic journey through the lead up to and through WW11. Filmed in the early '80's, the television series still manages to convinsingly take you back in time to the war years. It takes the emotions on a roller coaster ride of tension, fear, passion, compassion with a touch of humour thrown in for good measure.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Don't buy this new
The Winds of War has some of the worst, melo-dramatic acting you can get your hands on. I only purchased this set so that I could have the complete storyline with War and Remembrance. Clearly, War and Remembrance has better acting, and is much better produced than Winds of War. The Winds of War is slow moving and it will make you want to vomit over the continued drinking/smoking by some of its main actors. Buy this set only to have the backdrop to War and Remembrance; otherwise, don't waste your money buying it new like I did.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Winds of War
This was an enjoyable series. It shows the human side of WWII and does not present the characters bigger than life, but as people with strengths and weaknesses.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Time to review
This year marks the 70th anniversary of perhaps humankind's greatest folly. The time to review the advent to this war and the holocaust it hid for so long is overdue. The world should now again be made aware of this immense disaster by the international screening on television of both Herman Wouk's monumental works, "Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance".

Too many today do not know what acually happened.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great first half of the series
Just got through watching the Winds of War Mini-series all I can say is wow!!! Great story lines to go hand and hand with that time frame in history and the music used in the series is great got to save up money and time to get the second part of the series War and Remembrance if the first part is great I wonder how the second half is.
