Mitchum was always one of those actors that made things look so easy that he was often overlooked when the awards were being handed out, and paired with the lovely, Deborah Kerr he was given a chance to show off the subtle nuances that made him such a fine actor. The chemistry between the two leads is intense, the dialogue is genuine, and never dull, and Houston ( as usual ) infuses this essentially two-person play with a wide range of emotions, from droll humor, to barely subdued passion. HEAVEN KNOWS MR. ALLISON remains one of my favorite war pictures to this day, and I have watched it several dozen times.
The product is excellent for the price.

HEAVEN KNOWS, MR. ALLISON(1957)---Robert Mitchum, Deborah Kerr
A "two character" movie that I like a lot. Mitchum is a U.S. Marine who is stranded at sea and washes up on what appears to be a deserted island in the south Pacific during World War II. He soon runs into Kerr who is a nun that has been left alone on the island after the death of an ailing priest she had stayed on the island with to care for. A Japanese force comes to the island to establish an observation station and the bulk of the movie is taken up with the soldier and the nun trying to avoid detection and stay alive until the Americans can take the island from the Japanese. Along the way, each is forced to re-examine their lives. The film was directed by John Huston. While not a "great" or "classic" film, I enjoyed this movie a lot---I am a fan of both stars and I found the "character study" of the two individuals engaging.

This is a charming film about a marine who is stranded on an atoll with a catholic nun. He begins to develop feelings for her of course, but she is devoted to the Lord. The arrival of the Japanese make life hard for everyone and the two must go into hiding or risk capture.
I felt this was a courageous and heart-warming tale of unrequited love, and courage. I highly recommend it

I absolutely love this movie. I could watch it over and over again. They just don't make them like this anymore.
