These are great episodes from episode one, just not the ones I would have picked. Farscape is the best scifi show ever! I wish it had the episode where they pick up Chiana but hey, pickers cant be choosers...

Just like the single DVDs, this is a money waster. Buy the full season 1 - Farscape rocks, but why buy it twice just to see the other episodes?

An astronaut got sucked into anther part of universe, met aliens and starts looking for home. It doesn't sound original, but such classic idea is very appealing when it's done well. Farscape certainly exceeded my expectations. The acting is generally above average. The special effects are done well and enhances the show's atmosphere, but never at the expense of the plot.
This DVD is an good intro for the series, but I gave it 4 stars because it doesn't seem to have subtitles for all epiodes. My other complain is that one character just started to appear (in the 2nd disk?) without introduction, so if you haven't watched this series before it's kinda weird. Still, I highly recommand this DVD, like others said- you will get hooked!

The one thing that really impressed me with this DVD was that the episodes were all of movie quality picture and sound. There were things that I heard and saw quite intensely watching the DVD that I didn't catch when I videotaped these episodes from television. On the DVD, you can see that Moya, the organic ship that Crichton and the other characters travel around in, has moving parts on it. Watch the first episode scene where Moya comes out of starburst, and you'll see what I mean. The hauntingly beautiful Farscape theme music that was used during the first two seasons sounds great on DVD.
As a first season best of DVD, I think that two of the episodes do a good job of introducing people to the show who have never seen it. I liked the premiere episode, as well as A Human Reaction, but if I were to include the first season episodes that I thought were really good, I would have included Throne For A Loss, Back and Back to the Future, That Old Black Magic, and Through The Looking Glass. If I were to recommend one must see first season episode of Farscape, it would be Through The Looking Glass, this episode is what Farscape is all about -- yet it is too bad that it is not on this DVD collection. This DVD is, however, a good item to buy for those who love Farscape, and would like to see it on DVD -- I also liked the final episode commentary track of Family Ties with Ben Browder and Claudia Black -- they are just as funny to listen to as the show can be.

In case you haven't guessed, I'm am totally thrilled about this collection. The day that I got it, I sat down and watched six straight hours of Farscape. Sweet. The eps chosen are absolutely wonderful (DNA Mad Scientist has always been one of my favorites) and for someone like me who missed most of the first season, it was a geat way to pick up the good, essential moments from Season 1. The only drawback that I can think of is that they could have released more eps (maybe 8 instead of 6) but I might just be saying that because I want to watch somemore Farscape now. I am SO hoping that they decide to do this for Seasins 2 and 3 too.
