I think that RObert Duval is the finest actor that I have ever seen and he picks movies that hilight his special sense of humor and demeanor.

I have been a fan of westerns since I was a kid. It is rare that a western is even produced these days, much less a great one. Lonesome Dove was one of the last great westerns until this prequel Comanche Moon. For those of you that miss John Wayne, James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Robert Duvall and Clint Eastwood this will be one of the best movies you have seen in years.

We watched all of these and Comanche Moon as miniseries. We have Lonesome Dove on VHS. I'm going to buy the DVD's along with Comanche Moon for my husband.
I will have to say Lonesome Dove is one of my all time favorites - ranking close, not quite but as close, to Gone with the Wind. Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones were fantastic. Robert Urich also did some great acting, as did Rick Schroder. You could feel "Newt" hurt every time Call turned from him. However, Duvall's "Gus" always comes to my mind first when I think of Lonesome Dove.
Do not hesitate to buy this, or at least buy Lonesome Dove & Comanche Moon, you will not reqret it.

This was a present for my parents and they very much enjoyed all three sets of the the lonesome dove collection. Wished there was more sections. The Movies arrived on time and in good condition.

I've maintained for many years that in spite of it being a tv mini-series, Lonesome Dove is one of the greatest movies of my 50 years. In my opinion it is not just a great western but a great movie. Possibly, Robert Duval's (Captain Augustus McCrae) finest role as an actor and Tommy Lee Jones (Captain Woodrow F. Call) was very, very, good himself. There are multiple story lines, great characters and many of them, in their own way, will steal your heart.
Dead Man's Walk is the introduction to the younger versions of Duval and Jones characters, portrayed by different actors obviously. It is average at best but worth watching to give you insight into who these men are and what makes them tick.
Streets of Laredo is a slightly above average movie but gives you some closure in a series of movies that are entertaining to watch to say the least.
Now that CBS has come out with 'Comanche Moon' I would recommend viewing this collection plus Comanche Moon in the following order: Dead Mans Walk, Comanche Moon (when it comes out on DVD), Lonesome Dove, and Streets of Laredo. Just keep in mind the goal is to see 'Lonesome Dove' it is the Mount Everest of this collection.
