Harlem Nights is without any doubt one of the best movies I've ever seen and it could in fact be the best comedy I've ever seen. Every actor in this movie presents an academy award quality performance. It's funny and a great gangster movie at the same time. The fight between Della Reese and Eddie Murphy is a riot and I get tears in my eyes laughing every time I watch it and I watch it a lot. I wish there was a soundtrack CD available for it. It's pure class throughout: well acted; well directed; and well produced. True class.

Excellent Film. Simply breathtaking. Superb acting and classy style. The class in this movie... wow.. Vera rocked my world. Sunshine rocked my world. Quick was amazing. They said exactly what you want them to say..... Is he the type of guy you would ____. Yeah I said the word at the exact same time the movie did, during my first time seeing it!! One of the best movies ever made.

I saw Harlem Nights in my early 20's. What impressed me was the care given to the costumes and sets. The costumes were impecable, tasteful and goregous to say the least.
My funniest scenes besides the alleyway fight, were two. One where the gangster car chasing Quick gets pushed to the curb by Quick,finally stops shortly, and ALL the guns go off killing the driver. The second was when Quick tells Phil that he was making a 'deposit(HIM) when closing the safe door telling Phil to take short breaths as he only haSabout one 'hour'of air left in the safe to breathe with.
I am finally now after some time going to add this movie to my collection. It indeed is a CLASSIC ........

Come on, the cast list itself should sell this movie! Just get it. Should be in everyone's library.

This isn't exactly a family movie, but it is a very good one. Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy make a good team in this period piece about the 1930's and speakeasy nightclubs. The story, acting, music, and costumes are excellent. I highly recommend you at least rent this one. The language is a a bit foul at times but does not overwhelm the movie. When a big time hood decides to take over Pryor's and Murphie's club they come up with a plan to foil him that is reminiscent of the style used in other movies about conning the cons, but quite different and a work of art. Don't miss this one. Good quality DVD with good replayability. If you enjoyed this catch "The Sting".
