Frankie and Johnny was, well, different. When one begins the film, one first thinks that Frankie and Johnny will be a formula love story. Well it is in some sense, but is also is not. Frankie and Johnny is much more complex than it first appears to be. Frankie, having gone through an abusive relationship, must overcome her fear of an intimate relationship. Johnny on the other hand, must overcome his problem with lonliness. Through cooking, Johnny has found a start out of his dilemma. His goal in this movie, is to help Frankie find her own start. We can see Johnny's influence on Frankie, in how she encourages him to see his children who he has not seen in three years. It is how Frankie and Johnny find their "start" which makes Frankie and Johnny a successfull movie.

ONCE AGAIN IT IS A GREAT MATCH FOR MICHELLE PFEIFFER ; THIS TIME WITH AL PACINO. YOU WONDER UP UNTIL THE END (& EVEN AT THE END YOU'RE NOT SURE) IF THESE 2 CAN MAKE IT WORK TOGETHER ; THEIR PAST IS HEAVY ON THEIR FUTURE & WE WANT TO WISH THEM ALL THE LUCK...

I think that Michelle Pfeiffer is an incredible actress and portratys her character very well in this movie. It is a good story with lots of emotional tension. It's very well-directed, well-acted, and is quite entertaining to watch. I personally enjoyed it immensely and would recommend it for anyone who loves Romantic movies set in New York! (Aren't they all?)

I am slow to getting around to seeing this film. Surprisingly, this turned out to be one of my favorite movies. One review said that Michelle Pfeiffer was miscast. I totally disagree; she was perfect for the part. I have never been a big fan of hers, but I have now changed my mind. Her facial expressions showing her ambivalence toward Al Pacino were terrific. You could feel what Frankie felt in her embittered yet lonely situation. Her character was totally believable. I can't think of any actress who could play this part better. I thought that Al's character as the persistent ex-con with a heart of gold was slightly less realistic.

I believe that every woman, including myself, can relate to this type of relatinship. You believe that keeping to yourself is better than getting hurt. In reality we all want to be loved. That the time and effort he (Pacino) puts into trying to get her (Pfeiffer), to come around to his way of thinking, make him, and his qualities more desireable. Everyone wants to find that Mr./Ms. right. We all want to be loved and wanted.
