Masters of the Universe is a great movie from my past. I was bored one day tooling around on the internet movie database at www.imdb.com and happened across Dolph Lundgren and saw that he protrayed He-Man. I decided then and there that I hadn't seen this movie in years and had to have it. Thanks Amazon, you have helped me in re-living a great movie from my childhood.

"He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" was one of the 80s most popluar cast of characters during the selling of the Mattel toys and then followed by the unforgettable animated TV series and in summer 1987 it was the year that Dolph Lundgren was mighty hero He-Man and Frank Langella was evil being Skeletor in the motion picture "MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE" A film that is a little cheezy, but doesn't mean I can't like it or enjoy it, it just means it's not like a good movie, in the sense I'm talking about. In SC-FI, Star Wars is the definitive goodness of a movie. Masters is fun, thrilling with cool SC-Fi action, true enough to the show except the battle is on Earth and there scenes of Eternia. Lundgren was born to play He-Man. It's too bad it's Gwildor, not Orko from the show, but at least some of the supporting characters are in the movie, Man at Arms, Teela, the Sorcress,Beastman, Evil Lyn, but who is Blade & Saurod. If you say the show, see the thrilling movie, or if you like SC-FI still see it. It didn't like Courtney Cox or her character boyfriend. See the Battle that fought in the stars that now comes to Earth "By the Power of Grayskull" "I want He-Man back alive"

By the power of Grayskull!I have the POWERRRR!!!! Man I never get tired of that, even more than ten years later. So, they finally put this on DVD huh? I was wondering if they would ever do that, infact I was somewhat in doubt. Anyway, I used to watch the cartoon all the time and I remember how excited I was when I found out there was going to be a movie. Yes, my fellow reviewer is correct, He-Man's faithful pet and sidekick Cringer/Battle-Cat was absent from this movie. If only we had the technology we have today back then. Then He-Man could have graced the big screen with a CGI Battle-Cat, much like Azlan the lion in the new version of Narnia. I think Dolph Lundgren was the perfect choice for the role of He-Man, he looks just like our favorite barbarian right down to the chiseled face, long blonde hair and of course huge pectoral muscles. Why can't I have a body like that? Skeletor on the other hand was alot scarier in the movie than on TV. A fleshless face that actually looks like real bone, a big black Emperor Palpatine like cloak, and a deeper voice make him seem more like the Grimm Reaper compared to his hokier cartoon counter part. And instead of Orko, the little floaty wizard guy, they had a short Yoda like scientist named Gwindor who created the so called "Cosmic Key", which held...well, the key to cosmic power. You may have also noticed that most of the movie took place on Earth. That's because the movie's budget couldn't allow too much of it to take place on He-Man's war torn home world of Eternia. In fact they didn't even show the exterior of Castle Grayskull, only the tunnels underneath it. The Masters Of The Universe movie is not entirely based on the series but it's good for nostalgia and reliving your childhood if you grew up with the show. It's worth at least one look. (Update 1/17/08) I made a mistake, they did show the outside of Grayskull (which is pretty crazy looking by the way), in the movie as well as some of the landscape of Eternia, and we never saw the inside of the caves beneath the castle. Looks like I did it backwards, sorry about that. I finally got my copy of the DVD and am enjoying it thus far, a pretty good action based movie as well as a jump back in time. Also, the picture and sound transfer is awsome and Frank Langella's portrail of Skeletor still gives me shivers twenty years later. It Makes me feel like I'm seven years old again, trust me, it's worth checking out.

Only a He-man fan would want to watch this one. The cast and crew got almost everything wrong, and the exception is Frank Langella's rendition of Skeletor. Never has Skeletor been as menacing as in this movie. Dolph Lundgren may have done a better job had he gotten the role in his later years. There was so much potential with the concept of bringing the battle to Earth, but the movie just didn't have oomph. They didn't show enough of the struggle on Eternia and why it meant so much to He-man and company.
