Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A little bit overrated, but still great!
Don't get me wrong! I think this is a good album. I just think that there are better metal albums out there. I may be a 14 year old kid but I know real metal. I think that the ORIGINAL versions of ''Blizzard of Ozz'' and ''Diary of a Madman'' by Ozzy Osbourne or ''Number Of the Beast'' by Iron Maiden are better. Sure Rob is a better singer than Ozzy, but Randy Rhoads is a much better guitarist than K.K or Glenn. I think Rob is a great singer but he isn't the best. Look at Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden. I think he is better than Rob. Just listen to ''Hallowed Be Thy Name'' for proof. To the album now, my favorite song is ''Breaking The Law'' (I just love that riff!) because it is a rebellious anthem. This isn't thrath metal, this isn't any other form. It is just Heavy Metal. I know some people will go after me, but I personally think later stuff like ''A Touch Of Evil'' is better. Buy this album!! It is an essential piece of metal history. They are also one of the oldest metal bands still going!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Does anyone realize that Rob got the lyrics mixed up in the live version of Grinder????
First of this album rocks but in the live version of Grinder from the remasters,Rob messed up the lyrics by saying"I'd like to cap my sight capped everywhere" instead of belting out"I'd like to have sight capped everywhere".I guess people make mistakes,I didn't realize it until I heard it yesterday. This review is only about the mixed up lyrics. This album still rocks though.Long Live The Mighty Judas!!!!!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Great But A Sellout Album But For The Most Part
Don't get me wrong this is a very fun album from Judas but gone are the days of the real Judas Priest with classics like Sad Wings Of Destiny(The best real Priest album),Sin After Sin(Great album that one!!!),and Stained Class. This album along with Hellbent For Leather were clear sellout albums but they still rock but I don't know about Hellbent(because I don't own it). After Stained Class THE REAL JUDAS PRIEST dissapeared. This album isn't as serious as their 70's classics(THE REAL PRIEST),but it is still very good and really fun.Don't take this one serious, just listen to it and have fun.Gone are the days of Dreamer Deceiver,Dissident Aggressor,Beyond The Realms Of Death(The Very Best Songs from the band).

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Love It And Hate It
I have extremely mixed feelings about this album. What I don't like is that Judas Priest started creating radio-friendly hard rock songs to get lots of exposure like "Breaking The Law", "United", and "Living After Midnight." Although those songs aren't half bad, they are just sub-par compared to their heavier songs and they give potential fans a bad impression of Judas Priest. On the other end of the spectrum, we have songs that are fine pieces of heavy metal like, "Rapid Fire", and "Steeler". I suggest getting Stained Class, Sad Wings Of Destiny, or Hell Bent For Leather before getting this.

1. Rapid Fire - 5/5
2. Metal Gods - 4/5
3. Breaking The Law - 3/5
4. Grinder - 4/5
5. United - 2.5/5
6. Living After Midnight - 2.5/5
7. You Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise - 4/5
8. The Rage - 5/5
9. Steeler - 5/5

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Essential Judas Priest
British Steel was my first Judas Priest album, which I bought on casette back in junior high. Thinking back now, I can't remember what turned me onto it. Maybe it was the "Breaking the Law" music video I saw on Beavis and Butthead, but it's not important now. I listen to everything from Marilyn Manson to Cannibal Corpse and British Steel is still one of my top ten favorite metal albums.

It's not bone-crushing heavy, no. It's not that kind of music. I wouldn't call it "pop metal" but it's not lyrically deep or technically complicated. I would relate it most closely to ACDC's Back in Black. It's just real catchy, fun, and good.

It's more than just good melodies. There's a certain punch to it, and I think it's in the delivery. The mid-tempo song like Grinder and Metal Gods get a real good groove going and then just keep it up. It's something about Rob singing those short staccato syllables over the beat. Some of the tracks like Living After Midnight and Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise have more of a rock 'n' roll feel to them rather than what I think of as metal, but still rock none the less. And of course Rapid Fire is here as the obligatory fast tempo priest screamer with the banshee wail at the end. The Rage, while it does seem out of place on this album (as another reviewer pointed out) with its moody, brooding, sludgey feel and decidedly darker lyrics, becomes one of the album's best tracks with repeated listens. This song always gave me the most colorful mental imagery, though admittedly partly because of misheard lyrics (like early Ozzy, I find rob's voice sometimes garbles itself).

There's not one mediocre track on the record. The big picture is that British Steel is a very solid and fairly diverse collection of classic metal that's best heard while shouting along in one's car on the highway.

Now, a few notes about this reissue:
I can't speak for the difference in audio quality, since everything sounds bad on casette, but I will review the extras. The bonus track Red, White & Blue is a mediocre outtake that sound WAY out of place on the record, and in my opinion, tarnishes the album. It's not terrible, but it just doesn't fit. Another reviewer cites it as being a leftover from the ill-recieved Turbo album priest recorded several albums later. If this is the case, why is it here instead of on the Turbo remaster? The live version of Grinder, however, while hardly necessary, is well performed and, in my opinion, a keeper. On a sidenote, I can't help but wonder why the track order was changed from the original release. My old casette version had Breaking The Law as track 1. I'm getting used to hearing it this way, but I can't help but wonder which way the band intended it to be.
