So what more needs to be said? This cd represents Priest before they turned the corner when it comes to international acclaim. It's rocks from start to finish and has some radio friendly tunes on it like Living after midnight and Breaking the law. All in all good stuff and it showed us a glimpse of what Priest was going to offer us just around the next corner.

If you were new to Jusas Priest back in 1980 you probably thought this was a killer album . If you were familiar with the groups earlier work , you were probably a bit dissapointed but not surprised , if thier previous effort Hell Bent' was an indication where the band was heading . Its got a lot of pop songs on it - Living After Midnight , Breaking The Law , Metal Gods , United .. etc .... but it does have a few great tracks on it that make it worth buying . Stealer ,Ginder and The Rage are all great Priest tunes , Rapid Fire in my opinion is the lps strongest track . Its ferocious.. Its a song that represents the course Priest should've ( but didnt take ) in the 80s . I hate to give this 3 stars, because for any other metal band its a 4 1/2 - 5 star album , But to me its the first Priest album that has them falling in with the pack instead of being at the forefront of it .

I can't praise this album any more than all of the other reviewers. Yes, this album is THAT good! The clean but powerful production has prevented BRITISH STEEL from sounding too dated (compared to other albums of the era, like SAXON and even the mighty MAIDEN). This was the expected leap forward suggested on the live album UNLEASHED IN THE EAST, filling the promise of a tougher and heavier, yet more accesible sound. "Breaking The Law" is a good song for guitar beginners and its simplicity made this song so memorable. "Rapid Fire" is, like other reviewers have said, an almost full fledged thrash metal song, with its rapid guitar strumming, double bass drumming and lead break mayhem. "Metal Gods" has to be one of the most memorable metal riffs ever commited to tape. "The Rage" showed PRIEST's most versatile style, with its almost reggae like intro and the album's closer, "Steeler" is another mid paced thrasher with an intense riff (very similar to what bands like METALLICA would do years later).
One thing that no one has mentioned about the remastered version of BRITISH STEEL is the song order. The remastered version starts off with "Rapid Fire", a song that was originally right after opener "Breaking the law". I think song order is very important and I'll have to wonder why PRIEST decided on changing it. I was so bugged by the change of song order that I had to trade in my remastered copy! I still have the original printing, but wished I could have it remastered WITh the correct song order. I hope other older PRIEST fans take notice!

I agree with one particular reviewer before me that said Rob Halford has a more 'tough guy' vocal approach on this album than on most. To be honest with the rest of you, I can't really describe in words how good 'British Steel' is! 'Breaking The Law' has recently been used on a T.V commercial back here in Britain, to me, that shows how popular it STILL is here in the UK!
As my title says, THIS was my first Judas Priest album given to me as a Birthday gift, and it was the best thing I could've hoped to recieve!

One of the main recordings to shake the earth and form metal music. A must have!
