This set contains the first 13 episodes of the phenomenon that is Dragon Ball. The Dragon Ball franchise has been my favorite anime since I can remember. This story is about a young boy named Goku. He meets a girl named Bulma and their epic journey to find seven magical orbs known as Dragon Balls begins. Once found, the seven orbs can grant any person a wish.
Specifically, this set contains the first 13 episodes of the show, however, the dubbed voices used are ridiculously bad and out of date. Also, the episodes are edited to the point where it will make you want to scream. The original Japanese version isn't even available. This set also comes with the Dragon Ball movie, Curse of the Blood Rubies, but that is also horribly dubbed. This is a very poorly done set that doesn't do this series justice. It's sad that the first episodes of this legendary show were so very poorly dubbed. Get these only if you are a true fan. Otherwise, try to see these episodes somewhere, but start with the Tournament Saga if you are considering buying any Dragon Ball DVDs, it is done much better.

I love dragon ball, and was excited when I saw the original episodes being sold. I was disappointed that the DVD didn't have the original Japanese language, and that some things had been censored (for example, when Goku swims to catch the fish in the begining he is wearing swim trunks, however in the original he is au natural. other example, to get the dragon ball from the turtle elder, bloomer shows him her panties in the original, but this version completely deletes the whole scene.)

These are the first thirteen episodes of the Dragonball story. The young boy Goku meets the rich and worldly teenager Bulma and their lives become intertwined for over 500 episodes. Master Roshi, Kirillan, Emperor Pilaf, and Oolong make their first apperances of many in these episodes. The first hunt for the dragonballs is intertwined with mahem and violence along with the humor of a young innocent boy making his way through the world.

These episodes were dubbed/edited before Funimation got the rights to the series. They have since redone the dubs and prepared an unedited DVD, but it has only been relased in Australia. Funimation cannot release their DVD in the US until the other company (Kidmark?) relinquishes the publishing rights.
I'd recommend you buy up all the Funimation releases first. Then, if you really need to complete the collection, go ahead and pick up this version. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Funimation will eventually get to release their version here.
