This movie is pure fun from beginning to end. A sci-fi flick with a western theme. A great film that has been copied time and again with less than stellar results. See the original, the borderline-masterpiece that started a whole new genre. Recommended!

If you saw "The Terminator", it began here. "Westworld" is really good and gave the people in Hollywood another movie idea to steal from. This is a great movie especially, if you like originals.

The title refers to a futuristic theme park ,a fantasy land where jaded vacationers can go and live out their fantasies by interacting with robots programmed to satisfy their every whim .There is Westworld -a cowboy themed part of the resort ,along with Medieval World and Roman world
Peter Martin (Richard Benjamin)and his friend John Blane (James Brolin)opt for Westworld where they live out their Western fantasies as featured in movies and TV .They especially enjoy gunfights against a black clad robot gunfighter -a brilliantly cast Yul Brynner -gunfights the robot is programmed to lose ,of course.Things start to go wrong when the robots malfunction and begin killing the guests .The humans are now in a gunfight for real and their lives are at stake
Michael Crichton in both writing and directing this movie has given a new slant on an old idea-the notion of robot emancipation and rebellion against its human masters goes back at least to the Fritz Lang silent masterpiece Metropolis and Capek addressed it in his play RUR in the 1920's .Crichton has given it a new twist and gives us a believable scenario which makes for a movie exciting both emotionally and intellectually.
It a fast moving and powerful yarn which also has something to say about the darker side of the male psyche and is a blessed by some fine acting especially from Brynner who brings a cold ruthless quality to the role which makes the robot seem genuinely indestructible .Benjamin and Brolin are a tad bland but this is suitable for their roles .This is a splendid movie and heartily recommended to all

I am a person who likes Science Fiction. This movie Kind of is and is kind of Not. It still is a good movie in it's own way. I really like Futureworld. A step beyond Westworld.

I remember seeing many ads on TV for WESTWORLD when I was a kid growing up in the '70's but never got around to watching the film until today. The premise is still intriguing. Three expensive theme parks - Medieval, Roman and Old West - have been created for upscale adults to fulfill ALL their fantasies and the resort is almost totally staffed by androids. These very lifelike androids can only be distinguished from humans by a look at the underside of their hands. Guests are reassured "nothing can go wrong" and everything is closely monitored by techies wearing ties and white coats in the lab.
The film mostly focuses on the old west theme park where two friends played by the very 70's looking James Brolin and Richard Benjamin arrive for a vacation. Brolin's character has visited before and is confident about the pleasures WESTWORLD has to offer and Benjamin playing a recently divorced man soon relaxes and joins in the fun. Then something begins to go wrong as the android workers revolt against the humans.
The most memorable element of WESTWORLD is Yul Brynner as the robotic gunslinger relentlessly out of control and truly horrifying. The movie does have a few plot holes as well as quite a few untied loose ends. I would have shortened the action/chase scenes as well. Despite these little flaws this is a very entertaining movie that should please a wide audience. One caution though rated PG it doubtless would be rated PG-13 if it had been released for the first time today.
