Michael Kamen's X-Men score is simply one of the best scores ever released. It was one of my first, and one of my favorites. It contains heart-pumping action music (the best being in Ambush and Statue of Liberty), while also maintaining a great theme (contary to popular belief). If you are a fan of Michael Kamen, the movie, or just plain awesome scores, this is the one to buy.

I think this score would have been better had Danny Elfman scored it. I'm not saying Michael Kamen didn't do good on it, it just didn't quite do it for me the way I thought it would. Michael Kamen, who is a great composer, actually replaced John Ottman, who was signed on first to score this film. Most of the music contains electronic grinds along with an orchestra. The theme itself, not present in enough tracks, is a good one, and is very similar to the TV theme for X-Men. The last track is a big change of pace from the rest of the music on the soundtrack, with a romantic touch to it, complete with lush strings. I wish the main theme and the music from this last track would have been featured more throughout. In the second track, an electric guitar is present, representing the Sabretooth character. The reason why the rating is at 3 stars is because most of the action music is just a bunch of noise that doesn't really go anywhere. It is loud and brassy at a few points, but mostly pulsating with a techno rhythm. Only when the theme is played does the music start to breathe new life. Not a bad score, it just needed a little more thematic material present and not unsubstantiated electronic noise.

The first and the last track are good, especially 'Logan and Rogue', however everything else is filler, except for 'Mutant School' which has a few good parts at the beginning, but changes into something that sounds like filler. Overall, with all of the tracks, it is still a short running time, it wasn't a very good job.

The soundtrack for the film is a pulse-driven score composed by Michael Kamen. While some tracks are energetic and exciting, the soundtrack, like the film is just too short, and the numerous tracks are too brief for anything good to happen. Sure, it sounds cool, but it goes nowhere, save for "Final Showdown", where some well-orchestrated cues jump to some frenetic pacing. In short, it's a score that fits well with the film yet fails when used as a stand-alone soundtrack. Nice foldout sleeve though.
